Parisians Destroy Artwork That Looks Like Sex Toy

Non, non, non! Parisian vandals destroy 24ft art sculpture that resembled a 'giant sex toy' after claims it 'humiliated' the city (and if you're wondering, it's supposed to be a tree)

Vandals today destroyed an art sculpture in central Paris ‘because it looked like a giant sex toy’.

Looming above the city's Place Vendome, the 24ft tall piece, created by American artist Paul McCarthy, was meant to look like a green inflatable Christmas tree.

But the artwork, simple entitled 'Tree', raised eyebrows in the French capital because of its uncanny resemblance to a certain type of sex toy.

I think that rather it's a case of a few Parisian lovers of real art made an artistic expression of their feelings towards it. maybe. 😉

Come on. it's a heap of junk and in no way artistic, unless for the reason I stated above.

How lame would it be for an artist to put up an Artwork for an exhibition that imitated a real tree. Anyone could do that.

I suppose that Art is intended to inspire emotions and even ideas. I wonder what the artist intended those who viewed this "sculpture" to feel and to think.

To me, I felt that it's a piece of commercial-type junk. Maybe that's what the artist intended me to think and then to extrapolate that consideration in thinking about all the oh so many other icons that we are exposed to, masquerading as expressions  of our "culture".

Anyway, the artist (and this thread) got me to think about this, so his efforts were not totally wasted, eh?

I think maybe the Perth City Council should try to buy it at a bargain price, it would look at home in Forrest chase next to the big plastic green cacti or whatever it's supposed to be?
I don't do pics but maybe another Waussie would try find one? Please?

Parisians obviously didn't appreciate it.

A few vandals that live in Paris didn't appreciate it.

I suppose they could've kept it as a jumping castle

I found the tree and the face as seprate pictures years ago on the internet somewhere. Then recently, I combined the two in a photoshop program and blured where you can tell the picture was altered.

Where do they get off doing such a thing?

Are they pulling their leg?

Paris got shafted!

To me it just looked like an odd looking chess piece.

A little lower.

I wish the vandals would come to Brisbane.  We have oodles of phallic symbols on top of churches here that I wish were gone.
