I REALLY dislike Pell.
but even more so now I find out he said this:
"abortion is a worse moral scandal than priests sexually abusing young people",
seriously, I mean really? just wtf. there is no comparison.
agree, or disagree?
I live for the day Pell comes unstuck and his little fat friar tuck buddy Bishop Fisher. my dog has more compassion than these people.

my problem with religion is that it impacts on society, people not thinking for themselves is neither here nor there.

Might not be long before the new missus caused a heart attack.
Is he secretly married? To a woman? 😮

How people think therefore impact how they behave.

It is appalling if that is what was said. I have seen it before but never as a transcript and I don't usually pay a lot of attention to he said she said stuff.
As for being a Catholic...... there is no compulsion to agree with every teaching the Church has. It is a conscience thing... it is up to the individual.

Whoops I got confused with the other one 😞

you're right, these people can end up in positions of power

That hasn't always been the case, has it Azure? I remember people being strongly punished if they disagreed with any teachings.

I ask that nicely Eve. just curious because I don't understand people following a religion that doesn't represent their views. just the way it is?
I didnt doubt, Duffs. I thought your question was genuine. The thing is though, and I dont necessarily mean you, that no matter what I say, my beliefs will be criticised. And that's fair enough too but eventually, you kind of get sick of going over and over and over the same thing.
If I follow all the teachings of the Church, I will be criticised for being either delusional, uneducated etc etc...
If I don't then obviously that makes me a hypocrite.
I think from now on I will just keep my personal religious beliefs personal.

Has not always been the case. I remember things from my childhood. Lots of not nice things. Just ask my sisters.

It depends on what you call disagreed?
I have often disagreed with a Parish Priest.... fairly regularly too and not always the same one.
My mother divorced and remarried while my father was still alive. She received counselling from the Church but refused to not remarry in a civil ceremony. She was excommunicated.
She still sent us to Mass and Catholic school.
I have explored other Religions..... and for a time none.... and returned to the Church as my values are similar to their teachings.
