People who do not vaccinate will lose $

From January 2016 parents who do not vaccinate their kids will lose up to $15 000 in allowances/concessions, except in cases of medical  and some religious reasons.

Can I just add.  By posting these articles etc, I'm not trying to prove a link all I'm trying to point out is that the debate is not closed on the topic.  There are court cases pending and ongoing so I think it's a bit naive to just say that because of this, that and another study weren't able to find a link, then thats it, theres no link. I so hope that there is no link.  I hope what Dr Offit says about vaccines being so safe you could give 1,000 at a time and it wouldn't harm a baby (something like that).  I hope he is right.  I would challenge him though to test his theory on himself, just to be sure.  Because that just sounds a little over the top to me.

Hannah Poling is now a third grader in public school, working one-on-one with teachers in a special-ed classroom. She continues to struggle with the effects of autism and also has seizures. Her parents are hoping her case will spur additional research into the causes of autism, including the roles of vaccines and mitochondrial disorders.

"My daughter's case raises more questions than it answers," concedes her father, Dr. Jon Poling, a neurologist who also has a Ph.D. in biophysics. Poling believes in the importance of vaccinating children: "Vaccines are one of the most important advances in the history of medicine," he says, "but people need to know there is a risk to every medicine. There may be a small percentage of people who are susceptible to injury." He and his wife would like to see thimerosal eliminated from flu vaccines, which continue to be given to children and pregnant women, a fact that, he thinks, could be one reason autism rates haven't declined. And he urges pediatricians to take a hard look at the schedule on which vaccines are given. "I think we need a grassroots movement among pediatricians to be more conservative, and not give so many shots at once."

He's not old doctor Poling. He's the child in questions father and he states clearly that vaccinations are one of the most important advances in the history of medicine.

That is not what you have been saying at all.

Oh sorry I really didn't mean that to sound disrespectful...

I may not have acknowledged the benefits of vaccines, but I will do that right now.  I think they have played a role in heping to eradicate some infectious diseases, undeniably.  BUT it's not and has never been just the vaccines. And thats not all of what he is quoted there as saying.  He has acknowledged that there is a risk, especially for certain people.  And this "And he urges pediatricians to take a hard look at the schedule on which vaccines are given. "I think we need a grassroots movement among pediatricians to be more conservative, and not give so many shots at once." I agree with that 100%

The Vaccination court does not compensate for autism related injury. It is not included in the list of injuries they do compensate for.

Nobody is arguing that infants should be given a thousand vaccines at a time.  In fact Dr Polding says the opposite.

Then there's Paul Offit, perhaps the most widely-quoted defender of vaccine safety.

He's gone so far as to say babies can tolerate "10,000 vaccines at once."

This is how Offit described himself in a previous interview: "I'm the chief of infectious disease at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and a professor of pediatrics at Penn's medical school," he said.

The Vaccination court does not compensate for autism related injury. It is not included in the list of injuries they do compensate for.

So how can the article from smh say this:

If the voices of those concerned parents and carers aren't enough, consider this: recently, in a case before the US Court of Federal Claims, the US government conceded vaccines had aggravated a young girl's mitochondrial disorder to the point where she developed autism. As a result, the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program awarded her family an upfront payment of $1.5 million, and an additional ongoing payment of $500,000 per year to cover her care as well as the family's lost earnings, pain and suffering.

Damn straight, but considering his credentials and personal contributions to the vaccine industry that is no way to promote vaccines.  If anything that actually deters more people...

If he said any such thing.  He refused to be interviewed for the opinion piece.

"So really the only thing any of this proves is that no matter what you type into google, you will find something that relates to the key words you typed in... "

The original study is now well and truly debunked . It is a pity that the charlatan Wakefield's bogus study in 1998 was  grasped by so many with no medical qualifications or basic research capabilities, and even today resonates with a few like nuts .

From BMA:

"In the decade since publication of the Lancet paper, measles vaccination rates fell in Britain. During that time, cases of measles in England and Wales rose 25-fold to 1,370 cases in 2008, according to the British Health Protection Agency."

SHW,  with medical research you should search for peer reviewed papers/studies. Failing that,  search within the recognised major professional medical authorities.
