Anything out there that annoys you?

I'll share one of my pet hates, I struck it just last night... again.

You know those recipe sites you can look up, where people leave a comment and star rating for a recipe?

I like the sites, I use them a lot and I like to have a look at the rating/comments too, to assess if a recipe is worth trying. They can be really useful.

But the comments I hate are the ones that give 5 stars and say what a fantastic recipe it is then sneakily say at the bottom, 'I just added these other 14 ingredients and halved the amount of whatever and it was perfect.'

Grr, that's not the same recipe then, is it!!

The confusion between its and it's or there, their and they're etc.

Initially such typos were only on social media. Now they are even in published articles or on major websites.

I also dislike the overuse of the word like.

Spitting.

Movies where the dialogue shoots out profanities as though from multiple nail guns.

Smug and judgemental self-righteousness, but also laissez faire permissiveness without any expectations or standards of behaviour.

Dredging up resolved disappointments and faults of the distant past.

Not giving others one’s attention while speaking with them, eyes always restlessly seeking other people. 

Parents who won’t stop their children from screaming in public or at someone else’s place, and not stopping them from destroying property. (Exception for child’s behaviour when there are mental health spectrum issues involved; I mean when the behaviour results from a parenting style that lets children run wild and follow no rules.)

Letting any of this get to one to the extent that it sours one’s life.

As already said, the overuse of the word LIKE. As also said, yeah nah. Like wth is that?

I have lots of pet hates. Kids not being able to get in the car and be driven to school without a movie playing in the car. Can they seriously not stand being in the car for 5 minutes and actually look out the window?

Seeing toddlers in a pram at the shops with a phone shoved in their face. What is wrong with the child learning about their environment, without having to watch the same episode of Bluey for the 95th time?

Going out for dinner and the second the kids hit the table, the screens are out and they are immersed. Then when dinner arrives, parents are spoon feeding their 12yo kids because they can't take their eyes off the screen long enough to pick up a fork. Wow, what a fun night out that was (true story).

Going to someone's house for dinner and they spend the whole time with their faces shoved in their phone. Yeah, lets spend the night together, but don't expect me to look at you. I have to update my social media.

The Could Care Less drives me nuts too, as does off of. "Lets get off of the train". It makes no sense!

I hate when mature adults who should know better, and were raised with a decent education, constantly use text speak when they write. I shouldn't have to get my grandkids to translate a message from a 70yo!!! I also can't stand that those same mature adults can't use a capital letter at the start of a sentence, or even a capital letter for their own name. Don't get me started on the one big long sentence with no capitals, no punctuation, no nothing. Just paragraphs of hard to decipher text.

One of the big ones that really gets up my nose is, "My Bad". UGH!!

Smart phones and iPads and so on have transformed social life… Yes, it’s very intrusive and I think it’s also addictive.
