Malaysia Airlines says one of its planes has gone missing on the way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.
A statement from the airline says flight MH370 lost contact with air traffic controllers at 2:40am local time, just over two hours into the flight.
The plane, a Boeing 777-200, left Kuala Lumpur at 12:41am on Saturday, and had been due to arrive in Beijing at 6:30am local time.
The company says the plane was carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members.
The airline says it is contacting the next-of-kin of all passengers and crew, which includes people of 13 different nationalities.
In a statement on the airline's website, group chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the airline was working with authorities to locate the aircraft.
"Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilise its full support," the statement said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members."
The airline says it will provide regular updates on its website.
The ABC understand Malaysia Airlines will hold a press conference on the incident shortly.

But they found it, pretty quickly. This one is just gone.
They found it because they knew where the plane went down. The black box was not emitting signals as it was too damaged.
lots of other cases where the lack box not functioning.

More news this morning about a military radar signal in the Malacca Strait, way off course.

Malaysian authorities are also investigating several reports of locals claiming to have seen the lights of a low-flying aircraft in an area of the Malaysian coast, just below the Malay-Thai border.
It is this area which is now included in the widened search area.
A fishermen who was in his boat at sea, says that at about 1.30am he saw the lights of a low-flying aircraft in the area of Kuala Besar.
Azid Ibrahim told The Star newspaper in Malaysia that the plane was flying so low that that the lights were “as big as coconuts”.
And another man, about 30km south of Kota Baru, is reported to have seen “bright white lights” from what he thought was a fast-descending aircraft at about 1.45am on Saturday morning.
He has since reported what he saw to authorities after seeing the lights from his home that evening.

Maybe if they used over the top font sizes when posting on a forum? Humour, get some.
Seriously though. They have families. Black boxes don't usually fail, and not that quickly. I can't see anything brought up so far as being a reasonable explaination for the plane disappearing.
Hopefully they will be able to locate it soon. Underwater locator beacons can transmit signals for 30 days i think. Not sure about the distance the signals can be detected. 3-4km ???

i believe that 'the word 'believe' is spelt b-e-l-i-e-v-e.......'i' before 'e' except after 'c' - in most cases
I don't believe much of what I read, in the media especially and same regards online discussions/threads as there are a sprinkling of interferers with meddling agendas at large

The loss of this aircraft with its passengers and crew P007 is a tragedy.
In past topics/times P007 when, through a lack of scientific knowledge and the Scientific Method, you have attempted to promote ridiculous conspiracy theories I have had many a chuckle. This is not one of those times, and hinting at the possibility of an aeronautical event, or official reaction, outside of what would be possible/expected shows a complete lack of understanding of the circumstances involved to date, and more importantly the human emotions involved.
