The phones are all down, the roads in and out are blocked, they just have to stay there and hope for the best
I lived in Corryong for 5 years, so I am well aware for just how isolated it is there

I was there last year in 2018 they are a friendly town. I know a few people who live there.

Yeah it is a pretty part of Vic. Hard to get any info as what is happening there atm, all the ph lines are down and there is no power. Just have to hope the wind changes direction or they will be in real trouble.

Thanks Lydal ...... I am checking the Vic emergency site regularly ....... Seem to be fires all around the area I think the town is safe but with all communication down plus because no one can get in or out so the NEWS reports are scratchy atm ...... I dont think that Cudgewa has fared too well, not sure re Walwa or Jingellic

Walwa and Jingellic were warned early this morning to evacuate before it was too late....leave before 8am I think it was.
I am trying to find out about the NSW south coast and Goulburn area....have rellies in the RFS in both areas and have not heard from anyone.

Hope you can get in contact with them Lyndal, it's bad in so many parts of E NSW and Vic atm
The main prob with evacuating from the sm towns around Corryong is that both the highways were closed for a while, so they only place they could go was Corryong and there is not really a safe way out of there when a fire is happening, it's quite isolated up that way.

What I saw was detailed instructions for a number of small towns to evacuate via certain roads to other towns and then to other towns.
It was very detailed, explaining what roads were still open. I don't know the area at all but it did seem very clear even if a bit round about.
I have a feeling the news is not going to be good before the end of the year.
The southerly has roared through here....I hope it has not done too much damage on the south coast.

I didnt see those directions Lyndal but I do know the area quite well, there are only two main highways out of Corryong, one is the out through Walwa, 45km of winding road away and all bush along the way. The other is the main highway to Wodonga through Koetong and Tallangatta, 121 kms of winding road, through pine forest and bush, They were both closed ( they may be open now ) There are a few backroads but they would take forever and would be quite dangerous to use atm. The only other way out of the town town is up through Khancoban and that area is under threat
I do hope the winds havent caused more probs for those on the NSW south coast, it's such a worring time for some may people atm
