The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has just completed a detailed review of more than 7,000 clinical studies covering links between diet and cancer. Its conclusion is rocking the health world with startling bluntness: Processed meats are too dangerous for human consumption. Consumers should stop buying and eating all processed meat products for the rest of their lives.

processed meats increase the risk of pancreatic cancer by 67 percent. Another study revealed that every 50 grams of processed meat consumed daily increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 21 percent
To be avoided:

My MIL died from pancreatic cancer after never having a sick day in her life. She had 4 children which was the extent of her hospital visits.
She also had a very limited diet, fresh meat, vegetables and fruit. Cakes, biscuits and cheese, bread. No processed foods, no chicken.
Size 8, very fit and active.

PC58, more food for thought:
Several websites claim that a World Cancer Research Fund review of thousands of cancer studies makes this startling conclusion.
FALSE
World Cancer Research Fund spokeswoman says it's “scaremongering” to claim processed meat is too dangerous for consumption
An old rumor has resurfaced on Twitter and blog sites, prompting headlines at such sites as Examiner.com and DreamHealer to scream the same claim: “Processed meats declared too dangerous for human consumption.”
Spokeswoman Sarah West told MSN News via email, “The articles talking about processed meat being 'too dangerous for human consumption' are unhelpful and scaremongering. We would say that if people can't cut out processed meat completely, they should cut down. WCRF advocates a sensible, healthy, balanced diet.”
"Oddly enough, the World Cancer Research Fund’s website does not state anywhere that processed meats have been declared "too dangerous for human consumption.” It says there is “convincing” evidence that processed meat (and red meat) “increases risk” of colon and rectum cancers, while fiber and exercise help prevent them.
Cancer Council
There is limited suggestive evidence that red meat may be associated with an increased risk of oesophageal, lung, pancreatic and endometrial cancer, and processed meat with oesophageal, lung, stomach and prostate cancer.
There does not appear to be a strong association between red meat or processed meat and the risk of other cancers.
Why the dredging PC58? :
BBC 31 October 2007
There is no new research involved in this document: the panel examined 7,000 existing studies over five years.

That's not very nice really. I quite like a bacon and egg breakfast on a Sunday morning. We've all got to die of something.
