they do, if the buyers require it.
And there's the bit people have a problem with. There is no valid muslim or jewish reason for an oil based plastic to need certification yet they are required to pay a fee to religious organisations to be able to sell their product in certain countries. On these sort of items its nothing more than a money making scheme.

So what did muslims eat and pakage their food in before we had certification? Will they all go to hell because certification was only invented a few decades ago?
I can see the need for certification of animal products and their deriviatives, but we have ingredient labelling on pretty much everything nowadays, certification is simply an unecessay cost on things that are halal by default.

Example of the yogurt supply contract worth $50 000 pa, halal certification fee $1000 pa. Why isn't a business allowed to make their own commercial decisions whether they want to enter into such a contract or not?
They can and they did. But it seems some of their existing customers preferred to by non halal certified products and they figured perhaps they'd lose more than they gained. So they made another business decision to drop the certification.
$50,000 is not a massive contract, they could easily lose more than that by losing a couple of hundred existing customers.
The certification doesnt particularly worry me, I certainly wouldnt go out of my way to look for labels and boycott companies, but I can understand why people are cheesed off when its hitting them in the hip pocket.
