The past national president of the Australian Labor Party Michael Williamson is behind bars after a sentencing hearing, Williamson has agreed to owing the HSU $5 million based on his fraudulent dealings
"Williamson's salary as general secretary of the HSU East branch rose to $513,000 -- including allowances -- by the time he left the union and pleaded guilty to defrauding his union of millions of dollars last year.
In his last years as HSU leader, he also kept additional sums exceeding $200,000 a year earned from board appointments."
Thomson as National Secretary was reported to be receiving a mere salary of $270,000 a year, but as HSU officials are only paid allowances, superannuation and fringe benefits on top of their meagre salaries, the ex-tearful and criminally convicted Thomson took whole wholeheartedly to the fringe benefits of being on top.
Certainly Arthur Sinodinos's $200,000 salary appears high, but it was legal, before he was a senator, and currently he is just a witness for the ICAC. A far cry from awaiting sentencing as a convicted criminal after misappropriating funds of union members.
