Q&A on Feminism on right now

I'm sure there will be lots who won't understand what was actually said tonight, but I was very interested and entertained.

Just watched it. What a great panel, and I have to say I was very impressed with Julie Bishop.

I didn't watch the Q&A prog, but it's only necessary to treat others as equals in all consideration.

It's only necessary to be a "feminist" because in our society, women are not treated as equals. There's an insidious teaching in our culture which says that women are inferior to men and that needs to be consciously opposed.

But before it can be opposed, it has to be recognised. And too many people don't even recognise it even exists in the first place.

One of the tweets put it very well: "male is the norm, female is the other." How many words describing occupations have "man" as an ending: chairman, postman, tradesman etc.? It's not a deliberate put down, just something we say without really thinking because "man" is the norm.

Ad least, though, our Australian slang: postie, tradie, is non gender specific.Smiley LOL

And lets not forget "the world and his wife" and "every man and his dog."

Interesting write up.

I raised my eyebrows at a couple of things Germaine said, some of which were picked up in the write up below.

(No mention of the womens dress and weight comment by Germaine at about 11 minutes in).
