Queen Elizabeth II has died

The Queen had died, aged 96.

Longest-ruling UK monarch in its history, much respected, greatly loved in the UK…

No news as yet on cause of death, but she’s had health issues over the last couple of years. There were fears for her health and the Palace advised her to cancel a virtual Privy Council meeting on Thursday.

Farewell to a strong, capable lady who was undertaking her duties even up to two days before her death, when she appointed Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister.

Firstly - Charles 111 is not a Ruler - he is the head of a Constitutional Monarchy - he has no ability beyond that.

Parliament does.

I think he will make a fine King - a dignified King - following the example of his Mother - Duty - for as long as he lives.

As she did not - nor will he ever - abdicate - nor should he - not even in ill health - he can appoint a Regent - which would obviously be William.

As for Camilla - it is what it is - I also think his job will be made easier for the fact she will be beside him as Queen Consort - to support.

May Elizabeth 11 rest in peace beside Philip.

' God Save the King '.

I feel like you, Jane, and no, it has nothing to do with looks. Maybe it is something unconscious because I would have preferred Diana to be in her place.

Springy, didn't you once say that you are a distant cousin of Diana?

Yes, apparently, but I should add, a very, very distant cousin. I forget how many generations back but a lot. About 2 or 3 hundred years on what is my Coath line.

I guess I made the comments about Camilla and glamour as I get a bit sick of hearing or reading comments (not necessarily here but in media) that she looks like a horse etc. I think she looks like a perfectly average woman. I don't think she ever hit the heights of glamour that Diana did but not that many people do. I have always felt Diana and Charles just weren't the best match. I feel a bit sorry for Charles as I think he was probably nagged into finding a wife and settling down.

I'd guess that we'll have Charles there as king for maybe 20 years, although it isn't a given he'll live that long. It gives William a chance to have a breather before he has to take it all on. Charles may make some popular changes. There is talk he would like to pare down the number of royals on the public purse and some of the expenses.

My goodness, Henry 1 had a lot of children. Many of them seem to have been illegitimate, I wonder how they know for sure they were his.

Edward 1 did very well with the number of legit children too, mainly to his first wife.

LOL - careful if your name begins with Fitz.............

The prefix Fitz as in Fitzwalter (from French fils and Latin filius) is a patronymic meaning ‘son of.’ The connotation of illegitimacy was introduced by Charles II who named one of his **bleep**s Fitzroy, (‘son of the king’), and Fitzclarence was an illegitimate son of the Duke of Clarence, later William IV.

LOL - in the context of history - the other word for ' illegitimate ' is bleeped.

My nearly 57yo brother has always said he's only half a "barstid", because mum got married while she was pregnant. Such a scandal in the 60s!

They were planning on getting married, they just had to bring the wedding forward a few months.

My older brother is ' now ' a bleep.

My original birth cert was not enough for a new passport - had to get an extract - which previously was not as pertinent as the original - anywhoos.....................

They stuffed up the year of my parents marriage - by a year - which shed hazy light on big brother.

On enquiring about the mistake - it was going to cost me $32 to have it fixed - hello - not my mistake - so the certificate stands.

He wears the ' title ' proudly.

Try to guess who the royal babies or young children were without looking at the right side with the names... 🙂

I think Camilla is the most recognizable (but she is not a baby; she is 4).
