Today, local landholders who bravely took Gina Rinehart's Alpha Coal Project to court were vindicated, when the Queensland Land Court recommended against approving the Galilee Basin mega-mine — a joint venture between Rinehart's Hancock Coal and Indian giant GVK.
The judge ruled that this massive mine— should not go ahead, or only be permitted with stringent water conditions.
If built, the Alpha coal mine would drain 176 billion litres of groundwater.
Our farmers deserve to ...know the water they rely on won't be siphoned away by coal mines looking for short-term profit.
It's now up to the Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Andrew Cripps to reject the Alpha Coal mine once and for all, and safeguard the water supply that is the lifeblood of Central Queensland.
I bet they keep going til they push it through though.

What do you reckon the chances of the Minister buckling are? Kudos to the people who took this on. Water is as precious as gold in this country.

I have allways had a problem with people who believe water for cotton is more important than water for food?
