It's a bit of shock really, I suppose I expected him to live forever- at least he will live on through his music.. We went to see him once in the 80's I think it was... great performer

That sums him up, Youcandoit. A chameleon. He could transform himself at will. When he tired of one character, out popped another with appropriate music and lyrics. Could never understand why he was never mentioned in the NYH list, when you think of some of the nonentities that were.
Most news bulletins today (Mon) were given over entirely to his life, and all removed an already listed programme in favour of a tribute to him.
