Reporter and cameraman shot dead in Virginia during live broadcast

Thanks to babybiz for the link to this thread.

Interesting to read the comments here. You all have it about right in regards to guns in the US. It has all evolved over time to a perverted fetish enabled by and wrapped in the flag of American Freedom.

The lunatics on the Right always want to take an Originalist meaning of the US Constitution until it come to the 2nd Amendment..

It's obvious if you use the Originalist interpretation of the 2nd that the right to bear arms would pertain to the arms available at the time the Constitution was written, ie: muskets and flintlocks. Not AK47s AR15s and Glock semi auto handguns with 30 round magazines.

Personally I have no problem with anyone owning a gun for home protection or protection in their place of business. But that's it.

I have floated this proposal around for years and I am always scoffed at. It would be easy to implement and doesn't violate anybody's rights. The 2nd Amendment is the right to bear arms.

It says nothing about the right to ammunition. Guns don't kill people, bullets kill people. The gun is only the delivery device.

We just highly restrict the possession, manufacture and sales of ammunition. You want ammunition

then we are going to register you, limit the amount you can possess and track that ammunition.

There will be strict penalty's for any one caught violating. these rules. Caught with contraband ammunition first offense a year in jail, 2nd 5 years, 3rd 10 years. Illegal sales of ammunition 1st offense 10 years, 2nd 20 years, 3rd Life. Illegal manufacture of ammunition 1st offense 25 years, 2nd Life.

Why should the penalties be any less than what we sentence people to for violating drug laws.

Cheers, I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming

What's the shelf-life of a 45 cal  or of a 9 mm cartridge?

I'll bet it's a long time and there's a lot of ammunition out there in the world.

Banning the sale of ammunition to the public, outright, with no exceptions, how long would it take before the ammo ran out?

I was just listening to the BBC radio and a person whose name I didn't get, made the comment that there's a prevalence of shooters who had an untreated mental illness, and that this reflects poorly on the provision of mental health services to the public in the USA.

I've heard that too IR.  About some of the recent "shooters" in America are people suffereing from severe withdrawls from either Psychotropic or anti-depressant meds.  I dont have any links or sources off hand, I think I was watching a doco, maybe on YT (I know there is alot of BS to wade through on YT) still I thought it could be part of an explanation for their psycho behaviour...

This case though is really being painted as a race crime by the media...
