Tony Abbott's Hesitation Waltz
Despite Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s consistent anti-abortion voting record in Parliament, he now appears to be doing a hesitation waltz on the issue, in the mistaken belief that this will somehow help him counter the ridiculous headline- grabbing charge of misogyny levelled at him by the pro-abortion Prime Minister Julia Gillard,” said Margaret Tighe, President of Right to Life Australia.
She said, “Pro-life voters are appalled of his constant use of Bill Clinton’s mantra that abortion “should be safe legal and rare.” Only one thing is for sure, that once abortion is legal the practice of it skyrockets!” “In taking this approach,” said Margaret Tighe, “is he being influenced by his famous female advisor, Peta Credlin, who recently admitted that when applying for the Abbott position, she questioned him on his stance on abortion?”
Mrs Tighe said, “Right to Life Australia has every intention of making abortion an issue at the next Federal Election,” adding, “It is essential that Australians are reminded of the scandalous misuse of taxpayers money to pay for the killing by abortion of more than 100 000 Australian babies in the womb annually.” She emphasized, “Abortion is a denial of the most basic of human rights and is anti- women. As we say,” she said, “abortion means one dead and one wounded.”

Right to Life is just plain angry fullstop. I can't believe Margaret Tighe is still around. They harrass and bully and intimidate women who have made a choice and there is no justification for their behaviour. They have their beliefs and noone is forcing them to do something they don't want to do. They are simply fanatics.

I happen to think that abortions should be "safe, legal and rare" also
I think that is a sound ideal.....
I do not think that abortion should be a form of contraception.... and yes I do know women that have used it as such.
And even more so why is this such a Tony Abbot subject?? He is not going to try to change any laws, he is not going to stop abortions from happening... what is his opinion is just that...

As far as I know Tony has not changed his views on abortion. He has always been anti abortion since he has been in the parliament ( probably before as well). He has not been as vocal as the Right to Life expect him to be.

I actually don't believe the old phrase about women using abortion as contraceptive. They are not that cheap and easy to get. That is just another attack on women and their rights, to belittle them in such a way.
Apart from that she is claiming 100,000 women get abortions annually and fails to disclose that that figure includes miscarriages which are not people seeking abortions and cause heartbreak enough already, without some loony right to lifer making them feel that they are at fault because they are counted in the abortion numbers also.

You are right, Freaky. The figure includes miscarriages because abortion is the correct name for miscarriage and the natural expulsion of a foetus. It has been incorrectly used for some decades to describe a procured abortion.
