I am somewhat surprised that the issue of that poor horse has not been mentioned anywhere else on here - but then again maybe not
....and they call it the King's sport (or something like that) - nothing sporting about it for that poor horse.

Yes, I was. The Head of my department has always been an overseas person. As a result, they don't give a toss about the Melbourne Cup and we work through it. The Social Club do have an afternoon tea and televise the race but the thought of my boss having a stroke if I said I was going to attend always outweighs my enthusiasm for a chatty afternoon tea and viewing. ๐
