Round Table Revisited

And so Lord of the String said unto the peoples, "Go forth anew. Seek a land you can call your own."

The people saw it was good.

So, on the last day the people said their solemn goodbyes and began the long journey to the promised new land.

And so began the new land and its people were joyous!

Welcome, to the Return of the Round Table known as...

Hi Stringers ๐Ÿ™‚ Iza are you disobeying someone's rules? I noticed a bit of nagging over there ๐Ÿ˜„ Keep up the good work lol

Deb they're not going to knock it down, but restore it with some non-heritage features? It's a shame your state doesn't have strict heritage laws. It's a huge hotel, love it!

Hi Iza & Karen

Karen they're not knocking it down, but see that big modern multi story thing they're adding to it.  Smiley Surprised

the owners also want to remove all the leadlight windows and replace the timber floors with concrete, I think they've been given the go ahead on the flooring, it wiill never be the same again

Good afternoon Stringers Smiley Happy

Thank for that link Deb - I have not had time to read about it before.  What a monstrosity they are building behind it Smiley Indifferent

I was reading about problems being experienced in London with the reflected heat from another monstrosity over there, buckling and melting things in the path of the reflected rays!  The architects have a lot to answer for and it is dereliction of their professional responsibility not to have taken that sort of thing into account when they designed the building imo.

I feel similarly about what is planned for the Windsor environment!  Even seemingly small modifications to the original fabric of the building to accord with current building regulations should not be permitted as it reduces the historical integrity of the building.

Down off my soap box now lol

By the way - that programme I mentioned last night is worth viewing on iview - it really was fantastic

Hi everyone.

It's really quite sad to see the predicted before and after photos of the Windsor, Deb.  I think it's a real shame.  It looks like all they will be doing is leaving the front as a facade which I suppose is better than nothing.  What a gorgeous place it is.

Hi j*oono

Much as I am against facadism I cannot complain too much as it's application has allowed for the colonial streetscape in Freo to be largely maintained.  I often laugh when I think of Alan Bond's perhaps unwitting legacy his winning the America's Cup had on Freo.  Almost the entire West End was scheduled for 'demolition and development' until it was realised how awful it would have been to have a demolition site as the backdrop to the defense of the cup Smiley Surprised

The reversal of the 'development' decision meant the retention of much beautiful colonial architecture and houses you could not give away back then, you cannot buy now unless you are a millionaire lol.

So I guess the facadism and minor modifications to the Windsor are not the worst things which could happen.

Sheesh - nearly tripped over my soapbox lol lol

Sorry Smiley Embarassed

Who knew a tube of coriander could explode if you leave it in the fridge for a few months and then take off the lid?

Just in case you were unaware, green slimy, rotten coriander is not easy to clean off walls and leaves a stain.
