Sam Stosur has talked about boycotting the Australian Open Tennis Tournament. The reason is that the Melbourne Tennis centre carries the name of Margaret Court, a former tennis champion, who has voiced her opposition to same sex unions. Stosur has every right to speak up and carry out her boycott of the Australian Open. However, she might like to explain why she played in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. While she stumbles around trying to justify her appearance in that tennis gig she might also like to explain her appearance in the Qatar Open. Dubai and Qatar are hardly in the vanguard of championing for same sex unions.
Qatar – a country notorious for its anti-gay laws – has been cleared to host the 2022 World Cup by football’s governing body.

Man Accused of “Gay Handshake” Stands Trial in Dubai

I wouldn't mind betting that Sam Stosur has flown with Etihad Airways on the odd occasion. Ms Stosur has the right to speak up but it would be nice if she didn't make a fool of herself.

The centre was named after her because of her tennis ability, nothing else.
And Margaret Court is entitled to express her own opinions. It's decades since she was a tennis player, it has nothing to do with her past tennis career.
The problem is that she has used her tennis background in the letter to Qantas. you can't have it both ways. "I have represented Australia many times and have a record of never losing a game". This was in her letter to Qantas so she is using her tennis as a platform to put her views across. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, however when you put it out there you also have to hear others opinions. We heard more this week when she was talking about transgender children etc, isn't there enough hate in the world at the moment???? Who cares who people love? I know that the older generation struggle with this, my own parents make ignorant comments and also racist comments although they would never for one minute think they are racist. Fact is they are. Oh they will speak to other nationalities but I always receive a running commentary on what the person was. "oh she was indian but lovely", the asian girl in the supermarket, we are all people, we all deserve to have a decent life, free from hate and judgement..... I do not believe that the arena should be renamed, it was named for her tennis ability not her views, and I certainly do not believe in bullying if she is being harrassed, people should have their say and if they choose not to attend matches at that arena then that is their choice.

Margaret Court tennis academy 'targeted with abuse' following star's same-sex marriage comments

its sad that once you open your big mouth and use your freedom of speech, it attracts the seller dwelling creeps who hide behind annonimity of the internet to attack innocents without a care of who they attack or what suffering they may cause.
margaret should be ashamed.
as a so called christian she shows little of her christian values when she makes statements about something she seems to have little knowledge of.
what began as a simple disagreement with an airlines stance on gay mariage is now becoming a virus spreading to other homophobes just looking for a fight.

At least she doesn't go around smashing raquets.

What people like Sam Stosir are saying is others only have the right to express politically correct opinions or else they should be boycotted.
But isn't that exactly what Margaret Court is saying: "If you express an opinion that I disagree with I will boycott you." Why is it OK for her to say that but not for Sam Stosur to say it?

i dont think it was the threat to not fly Qantas that made the big stink, it was what followed, the silly comments regarding the children of gay couples that kinda ruined her credibility.
if she had really thought the whole 'i cant be asociated with a company that agrees with same sex mariage she would realise most company boards have said they support same sex mariage. so flying by any other airline is prolly out of the question. even the low budget airlines that havent said they support same sex mariage are subsidary of the big ones that have.
the "Weekly" with charlie pickering o ABC TV covered this point quite well last week. i cant remember all that was covered but it was funny when you realise if margaret sticks to her point she prolly cant fly with anyone. she just picked on qantas because their CEO anounced their position.
please dont beat me for my poor punctuation or spelling guys and gals. was never very good at school.
