I am really happy Schapelle is out, me and the kids wrote to her for years so Im really glad the nightmare is over.

I am also writing to another Australian young woman in a foreign jail.

Her name is Alana Miles.

Havent heard of her?? Ur not alone...... I wonder why you havent?

She is young, Aussie, female, she is in a shocking prison for over a year and she hasnt EVEN BE CHARGED YET!

Theres no media pack there in Bolivia, theres no TV deals, no books being written - this young MURRI woman is alone and no one seems to care.

She not pretty enough? Hasnt got a family screaming at reporters? (no reporters there so thats hard) Wasnt a beauty school student? She not white enough?

I dunno - you tell me 🙂 Why do you think no one knows about Alana?

I am happy that Corby is out too but I have never heard of Alannah Miles lobs.

But it does make you wonder doesn't it? How the media treat a young pretty white Australian girl in comparison to anyone else. Not just Miles but even men. It reminds me of the media frenzy when that young blonde lawyer was arrested in Russia. Her face was all over the news.

Mind you it is harder for the media to get to Bolivia.

Are our authorities doing anything to help?

That story did get some media coverage when she was arrested-the mention of the Nigerian jogged my memory.

Or was that the Singapore story that got your attention?

I recall the same thing happening over there.  She got picked up with cocaine in the car.

Lobs, try IA. Ask them to follow up the story.

It had something to do with the accused stating the car was owned by the Nigerian and she had no knowledge of the contents in the boot.

Alana Miles has been in jail for nearly a year, suspected of cocaine trafficking in the South American country, but she has yet to be charged.

With the release of WA Noongar man Shayden Thorne from Saudi Arabia and the possible release of Shapelle Corby in Bali, Alana's sister, Kylie is hopeful of some good luck too.

"I'm always going to keep positive, because I believe, you know, I have to believe that's she's coming home," Kylie says.

"I have to believe that, and I am still the rock in my family, even though I'm struggling too. So for me, I will believe and I won't give up."

Kylie spends most of her time at the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts in Brisbane where she is studying acting and spends her spare time fighting for her sister's release.

Kylie says Alana was travelling the world after completing her schooling. She went to Bolivia to spend time with a foreign exchange student she knew in Australia.

The friend bought Alana a backpack to carry all her souvenirs. She was busted at the airport and the friend vanished.

"We don't know if he's still in Bolivia, we don't know where he is," Kylie Miles said.

"He might still be somethere else in the world right now, quite easily, he could have left that day.

"He could have been the person who carried the bigger amount of drugs though. We don't know."

Kylie says Alana has been jailed, but not charged.

The family has legal representation for Alana in Bolivia and raised almost $9000 for her case.

Kylie says her sister has been bullied by prison guards for maintaining her innocence. She says the Australian Government hasn't been helpful.

"I think because they knew she has a lawyer and that she was going to defend herself.

"So they would see that as...'she must have some worth if she has a lawyer and she's trying to fight back'."

In a statement to NITV News, the Department of Foreign Affairs says it is continuing to provide consular assistance to Alana.

"Consular staff from the Australian Embassy in Lima continue to provide consular assistance to Ms Miles...Since her arrest in Bolivia on 18 March 2013, Australian consular officials have visited Ms Miles four times in detention, most recently on 11 December 2013," the statement said.

DFAT says it expects Ms Miles to be afforded due process and is keeping the family informed of any developments.

I did not hear about this.  I was thinking about the middle aged woman in a car with a Nigerian in Asia somewhere.

Family representatives of 24-year-old Alana Miles have called for help from the Australian government after hearing she could spend up to ten years in prison.

Ms Miles wanted to travel the world and catch up with friends she'd met on the internet to celebrate going into remission after suffering Leukaemia as a child.

She met a Nigerian friend in Malaysia, before going to meet another Nigerian male friend in Bolivia.

At the airport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, a search of her backpack found an amount of cocaine.

Ms Miles’s Nigerian friend still hasn't been located.

Her sister Kylie Miles said Ms Miles has been set up by the people she trusted online and is expected to face court.

"Best case scenario she’s released from the prison, then she goes into what they call a marriage, but they’re actually under some type of house arrest supervision by a married man, and it’s that married man that needs to watch over her and make sure she doesn’t do wrong for up to 12 months," Kylie Miles said.

She added that her sister is unable to manage her diabetes effectively in prison conditions.

Kylie Miles has been raising funds via Facebook for legal fees and has called on the Australian Government for more help.

In a statement to the media, the Department of Foreign Affairs says consular officials have visited Ms Miles several times and made it clear to Bolivian authorities that she be granted due process.
