Services Australia check in - a data hog ?

Just seems to me that since shop " check-in "  app usage has been obligated for the consumer by Government mandate,  in the interest of  Government goodwill ,  cheery compliance under ambient emotional and financial stress and more elevated feelings of a fair go,  I would suggest that data usage by that app be made metered free and not debited against the hapless phone subscriber account

I agree. We would also hope that data is not used to gather info on habits of a person for financial gain of some other party.  This could still be done indirectly.

I just love the scenarios you conjure up in reply sandypebbles?

If there's a way for various marketing companies to gather info then it will be done. Nobody's talking about drones here unless you are?

What possible financial gain could be obtained from the QR code check-in? Seriously, I sometimes wonder where your head is at!
….unless the govt men in black are watching your checkin at the local chemist as you fill your script for Doxycycline again 😉.

Reply: I didn't say that it was done directly did I? I wasn't talking about the connection between phone and gov't tracing app.

Your Apps Know Where You Were Last Night, and They’re Not Keeping It Secret

Dozens of companies use smartphone locations to help advertisers and even hedge funds. They say it’s anonymous, but the data shows how personal it is.

By JENNIFER VALENTINO-DeVRIES, NATASHA SINGER, MICHAEL H. KELLER and AARON KROLIK DEC. 10, 2018

The millions of dots on the map trace highways, side streets and bike trails — each one following the path of an anonymous cellphone user.

One path tracks someone from a home outside Newark to a nearby Planned Parenthood, remaining there for more than an hour. Another represents a person who travels with the mayor of New York during the day and returns to Long Island at night.
