Settlement in WA baby flu vaccination case

A confidential settlement has been reached between pharmaceutical manufacturer CSL Ltd and a five-year-old West Australian girl who became severely disabled after receiving a flu vaccination.

Saba Button was about to celebrate her first birthday in April 2010 when a GP injected a 0.25ml dose of CSL 2010 Fluvax into her left arm.

As a consequence of the vaccination, she suffered hypoxic brain injury and severe disabilities.

Coincidence? Both April 2010

A FAMILY is in mourning after their toddler unexpectedly died less than 12 hours after receiving a seasonal flu vaccination.

Two-year-old twin Ashley Jade Epapara had been "perfectly fine" before dying at her Upper Mt Gravatt home, on Brisbane's southside, on April 9. Parents David and Nicole are shattered by the mysterious death of their baby girl. "It's dreadful, it's a very hard time," Mr Epapara said yesterday.

Common sense.

"In Australia, getting vaccinated around April/May is best as our influenza season can start as early as June"

The injection should not have been into her arm, the doctor or whoever gave it should be disciplined.

I assume that this was part of the investigation.

The question is whether CSL or the medical profession knew that the Fluvax vaccine was dangerous for small children.

It is no longer given to children under 5.  The story says that dozens of small children were adversely affected.

The coincidences are that the children adversely affected were all at the same time, was it the fluvax or was it the batch? No one is telling it seems.

In any case it appears that it was not tested correctly before being given. Advising after the catastrophic event is too late for those families.

Fluvaxยฎ vaccine is given by a doctor or nurse, as an injection into a muscle or under the skin

If I remember rightly, the Brisbane case was investigated and proven to have nothing to do with the vaccination.

A CORONER has ruled that a flu vaccine linked to convulsions in almost 100 children may have contributed to the death of a toddler.

The finding by Queensland Coroner John Lock sparked calls for improved testing procedures before the release of mass vaccinations. Mr Lock yesterday finalised his investigation into the death in April of two-year-old Brisbane toddler Ashley Jade Epapara - less than 24 hours after she received the seasonal flu vaccine.

Is that April this year?

If not, follow up investigations cleared it.    "may have contributed"

But NOT into the arm of a baby, (should be upper outer thigh).  This was discontinued more than 20 years ago, and any person doing it needs to be reported.
