Sexism is not real in Australia! is it?

For all those who keep repeating that Prime Minister Gillard has not been the target of sexist attacks since she won the last election battle what do you call today's events?

First the Army.

Then the Tim is gay attack on Gillard.

Are you really ready to accept these behaviours as the norm for your daughters and sons?

FN: "On NDIS alone she has won, regardless of the September outcome."

Won? the NDIS has eventuated as a result of bi-partisan support, however FN I am still interested in the funding source, outside of the increase in the Medicare Levy( "Ms Gillard, had weathered criticism for proposing the levy after previously rejecting it")  Perhaps you can

explain where the rest of the funding will originate?

Yes won on NDIS, to the appreciation of many people.

Go look at the budget papers, I don't care how it's funded, it's fair.

That's just it though freaky - it's NOT fair - and as it is, it is NOT sustainable - how long until our insurance industry is in crisis (for real this time - not the fake one from a few years ago) because less people use it because they think they can rely on long term care for a no fault disability?

It has not been successful in any other country.

Again I ask you, how do they propose to sustain this when they can't sustain previous promises such as "free" education, healthcare and pensions?

How long has it been since our current mentally ill people were turned out onto the streets to manage their own medications and lives etc because of lack of money?

How is this going to help people who have already been forced into institutions for things such as non traumatic tetraplegia?

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

am*3 I guess he too realizes that it cant be done therefore it wont be done in its present form.

I look forward to the time that the treasury released the pre-election figures.

And in the words of William Shakespeare I predict :-

Foul deeds will rise,
Though all the earth o'erwhelm them, to men's eyes.

It's not my job to fund it or to find the funds for it.

I trust treasury will provide the figures needed to provide the service.

It's not going to impact insurance. We still all need third party insurance and public liability insurance.  Those who have injury and income protection insurance will keep it, not that most the population have insurance that will cover lifetime disability.

What a stupid bunch of reasons to deprive people of this insurance that was supported by both sides of the house.

What's wrong with the budget papers?

Don't trust treasury in May but trust them in August?

(Crikey - i am using this quote as an example, not a comment on your post)

I'm so over that word 'sustainable'. This seems to be the shout every time the government broaches a new (and important) initiative.

So perhaps this is a good time to remind people of what a government is meant to do: A government is about regulating, legislating, organising and influencing a country. It is not a business. It is not an enterprise that focuses on profit. It's an enterprise that focuses on long term policy.

A major role of government is to provide structure. It's rare that any of that structure could ever be called sustainable: Roads are not sustainable. Hospitals are not sustainable. Schools and universities are not sustainable. Law and order is not sustainable. This list is endless of course.

Imagine if a government only focused on sustainable policy and program?

Moving back onto sexism ... I woke up this morning wondering how much difference the  internet has made to our general manners ... and our expressions of our views.  Looking back, the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s things changed enormously for women in the workplace, the sporting arena, the home (I hope).

Now, as I said earlier, things seem to be moving backwards.

I am thinking that maybe the freedom we have to anonymously post almost anything without repercussion - in some places - is making some people express their real views of women more than they would have previously.
