For all those who keep repeating that Prime Minister Gillard has not been the target of sexist attacks since she won the last election battle what do you call today's events?
First the Army.
Then the Tim is gay attack on Gillard.
Are you really ready to accept these behaviours as the norm for your daughters and sons?

INAM : "Imagine if a government only focused on sustainable policy and program? "
Sustainable, within our bicameral legislative branches system, is mainly that which lasts around 4 years or to the next election, and is often underwritten by acrimonious division and supporters with blind allegiance from both sides.
exactly! yet it is sold to us as a long term thing.

"It was Streptococcal A toxic shock, a bacteria which when it takes hold, is generally fatal. He is lucky to be alive."
"lucky to be alive" - with no arms or legs?? I think some would debate that.
Did you read the story. His family ,wife, parents, siblings had to decide if he should have the operation to amputate his legs and arms to save his life, as he was to sick to do so himself.
After he came around, he said he was pleased that they made that choice. He has 4 young children and a wife that love him very much.

What a horrific time for them.
I would have thought that Medicare would have covered the cost of prosthetic limbs?
Well, that is what we were led to believe, that the Medicare Levy was implemented to provide for and cater to our health needs, but it seems that that is not true in all circumstances.

They probably do pay out some $$ amount for them but it is most likely it would be far short of $500 000.
This guy doesn't have much stumps left so has to have very specialised prosthetics.

You go to a Dr for a visit, Dr charges $65 approx, Medicare refunds you the maximum of $35 approx.
Medicare doesn't cover ALL the costs of treatment/visits.

If he can get the $500 000 for prosthetic limbs he needs to carry out a normal life from the NDIS, then who would argue with that?
He may even be able to work again, depending on how things go.

It was Streptococcal A toxic shock, a bacteria which when it takes hold, is generally fatal. He is lucky to be alive.
Uh huh and 6 years ago, it took the life of a 15 year old boy, left another a paraplegic, a 12 year old with a damaged spine (deteriorated the "juice" in the disc space) requiring ongoing physio and occupational therapy not paid for by Medicare, and then 4 years and 5 months ago, it very nearly killed a little 8 year old girl, was predicted to leave her mentally and physically handicapped, although for a reason for which science does not have an answer, that little girl survived unscathed. 7 weeks in various hospitals often flying doctors into her as she was too sick to go to them, 15 operations on her head, at one stage the doctors were leaving her head open after each surgery with her eye resting on her cheek or the skull cap open (they alternated between the two) as it would only be a few more hours before they had to go in and cut out the newly regrown infection. That one cost upwards of $60,000 not including the rehabilitation expenses.
Guess who payed the medical and rehabilitation bills for that. Apart from some initial blood tests and doctor's appointments - it certainly wasn't Medicare.

but didn't it say that he would have to replace them in a few years??
anyway, what happened to his original infection ( or was that in his arm?) and the kidneys - is he still on dialysis ??
by the way my wife is still in hospital and now she is quarantined and everyone has to wear protective clothing to go in there - why? Because she has now caught a further infection on her skin which is VRI.
and one further question - how does this all fit into "Sexism is not real in Australia! is it?"
on 15-06-2013 03:50 PM
It doesn't fit in, merely an opening for more negative chatting about politics.
on 15-06-2013 03:52 PM
well, hospitals are certainly not sexist - they'll give bugs to anyone.
