Tony Abbott’s daughter Frances received a “chairman’s scholarship” for a degree costing more than $60,000 from the Whitehouse Institute of Design where an Abbott donor sits as chairman on the board of governors, Guardian Australia can reveal.
The revelation raises questions for the prime minister over whether the scholarship should have been declared on his interests register.
The Coalition government is also under pressure over changes to higher education funding announced in the budget.
Frances Abbott undertook a bachelor of design at the Whitehouse Institute of Design in Sydney from 2011 to 2013. Guardian Australia has confirmed that she received a scholarship during her time at the institute.
“Frances definitely was a student with us and received a chairman’s scholarship,” Leanne Whitehouse, director of the Institute told Guardian Australia. She declined to detail how many times the “chairman’s scholarship” has been awarded previously, but the institute’s website makes no references to the scholarship and states the institute “does not currently offer scholarships to gain a place into the Bachelor of Design”.

Hoping free ride Frances reads this.
Why?
The scholarship was given in 2011 and she graduated in 2013. This is 2014. None of her fellow students at the time would have been subject to the proposed budget cuts. Speaking of free ride, do we know if indeed they have paid their HECS back yet? Or under what cirmunstances Victoria Rollison got her degree? If indeed she has one or whether she's just another opinionated blogger.

The point of the letter was to highlight Abbotts hypocrisy.

her classmates aren't too pleased either.

What do you (or Victoria) think Frances can do about it?

Shame on all of you for doing this and the attacks.."
I am not as "true blue" as yourself NW, but I concur with your comments. Whilst The Guardian attempts to justify its partisan article(s) as being in the public interest apropos pecuniary interests (nonsense), I have yet to find any ALP parliamentarians joining in. It would appear that they respect the convention that members children are off limits for just political advantage, unlike the somewhat unprincipled Guardian, and some hand fed contributors here.
Do I see a Poor Her moment here....

what do you mean- what can she do about her dads hypocrisy?

One classmate:
“Having studied in the same classes alongside Tony Abbott’s daughter … I can assure you that there were no scholarships awarded to any other students in our cohort, and I can definitely say that I studied with some extremely talented people who were more deserving of a $60,000 scholarship,” Mr Mason said.
Who's he to say who's more deserving than Frances? Sounds like a shipload of sour grapes to me.
There is no evidence Frances did not earn her degree on merit or that she was not entitled to her current job. And Mr Abbott’s office said, in a statement to news.com.au yesterday, that Frances won the scholarship “based on her application and art portfolio”.
Mr Abbott’s office also said the Clerk of the House of Representatives had confirmed there was no requirement for the Prime Minister to have declared the scholarship.

did she even receive a scholarship?
don't they give you money when that happens?
i thought they just didn't charge her fees? like the invoice got lost

your missing the whole point here icy. No poster here has even suspected or accused the lass of not doing well or faking her Distinction gradings. It is the valid point that Tony Abbott has access to advantages that anyone in their right mind would similarily take BUT he then insists in a most hypocritical manner that everyone else has to pay triple gazillions for the same end.
Not fair, NOT DEMOCRATIC IMO
