Tony Abbott’s daughter Frances received a “chairman’s scholarship” for a degree costing more than $60,000 from the Whitehouse Institute of Design where an Abbott donor sits as chairman on the board of governors, Guardian Australia can reveal.

The revelation raises questions for the prime minister over whether the scholarship should have been declared on his interests register.

The Coalition government is also under pressure over changes to higher education funding announced in the budget.

Frances Abbott undertook a bachelor of design at the Whitehouse Institute of Design in Sydney from 2011 to 2013. Guardian Australia has confirmed that she received a scholarship during her time at the institute.

“Frances definitely was a student with us and received a chairman’s scholarship,” Leanne Whitehouse, director of the Institute told Guardian Australia. She declined to detail how many times the “chairman’s scholarship” has been awarded previously, but the institute’s website makes no references to the scholarship and states the institute “does not currently offer scholarships to gain a place into the Bachelor of Design”.

Frances Abbott Chosen ‘On Merit’ To Help Lobby Fed Govt Regulators

Leaked documents obtained by New Matilda reveal that late last year, Ms Abbott was one of just a handful of students from more than 400 put forward by Whitehouse to be interviewed by assessors from the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency. TEQSA is the federal government regulator responsible for approving or denying an application from Whitehouse to launch a new Masters of Design course, and the re-accreditation of existing courses.

That application was ultimately successful. Ms Abbott has since moved to Melbourne to enroll in the course, securing a job at Whitehouse’s Melbourne campus while she waits for it to begin later this year. Ms Abbott appears to be the only one of 74 employees with no defined role, according to leaked documents.

In the latest twist, assessors from TEQSA visited the Sydney campus of Whitehouse in November 2013 - two months after the Prime Minister won office - to view the facilities, and to interview staff and students selected by Whitehouse.

Ms Abbott was one of eight students from a body of more than 400 chosen to be interviewed.

I read something today about another daughter being made an ambassador for BMW some time before the father decided to purchase a nice new fleet of BMWs for the government.

from what I read freaky she(Bridget Abbott) was working for a horse racing carnival for whom BMW was sponsor. Then again, one should not always believe everything one reads.

A 'fleet' of the series 7 BMW's at a purported cost of $525,000 each was made for Fed Govt recently.

.........someone is great at designing.

That recommendation was made in December of last year, according to the Fairfax report, but the contract to supply a fleet of nine high security vehicles has since been awarded to BMW, which didn't bid originally.

You would think regardless who you voted for you could see the hypocrisy in this?  But no, we get the same staunch liberals defending this scholarship.  For once I would love to read one of them say, yeah probably an error in judgement.   And one in particular turns it around and blames the unions for everything,. yawn.
