Should Take-away Food Be Taken Into Cinemas?

When we were at the theatre last Saturday, the ppl next to us brought in a take-away foam pack of hot fish and chips. The smell of it went all through the theatre. I thought it was inappropriate.

Just a few days earlier on the drivetime show, the discussion was whether it was ok to bring take-away chinese food into the cinema.

Most people called in saying they thought it was ok.

Matty thought it was wrong, Rosso said it shouldn't be a problem.

Seeing popcorn, sweets and ice-cream is allowed in the theatres, is it ok for hot take-away to be consumed during the show as well?

I think not. I smells and is messy imo.

What do you think?

I think it is up to the people who own the premises.

Nothing to do with smells etc.

The people who own the premises/operation rights, should be able to determine that it is their food that is served/consumed on the premises.

It's part of their business.

I agree with you. Hot food is too smelly to take into a theatre. I hate it on trains too, there's not much worse than being in a train carriage with someone nearby eating smelly dim sims

I don't think it's right.  I wouldn't be able to concentrate on the movie if I was starving for a chippie.

It does stink.  I take my own food and drink, if necessary.

Didn't one chain try to ban any food (other than what they sell at exorbitant prices) a few years ago?   Don't know what happened there.

No-one would be able to stop me from taking my own food.

I can't understand why anyone can't sit through a movie without stuffing their face.

I think hot aromatic (to some) take aways are a no.

Cold snacks such as chocolate or lollies are a yes because they can be way over priced at the cinema.

I think it is the height of bad manners!  Did they have a beer and wine as well?

Apart from manners, any aroma could detract from the "power" of the message within the performance.

NO!

Can't people watch a movie for a couple of hours without stuffing themself with takeaway food?

Have a drink, have some popcorn or lollies, but have your dinner or lunch after the movie.

No, I don't think people should bring food into cinema's and I don't blame cinema management from banning that.

For two reasons:

1. As you say. icy, the smell of hot takeaways will waft over the cinema (it is not a cafe)

2. The people who bring in food, will leave scraps, packaging etc and the Cinema management have to pay staff to pick that stuff up and dispose of it.

I can't get over how 'piggy' people are in movie theatres with popcorn/sweets packaging/ empty drink cans.. just drop it anywhere and the theatre looks trashed after the movie is over.. that is not even including any hot takeaways.

I always made my girls take any  of their rubbish out and put it in the bin outside the theatre door. They would say 'why, the cinema staff will clean it up'. Really ..people are too lazy to pick up their OWN rubbish and put it in a bin? No, do it yourself.
