Even though most Australians seem to be knuckle-dragging neanderthalers I learnt their language in order to fit in.
lol. You can buy extra large bandaids for your knuckles. You can them at the chemist/pharmacy/drugstore/supermarket. I prefer to attach little wheels to them and so I can get around faster.

Your choice to move to Australia and learn English.. do you want a medal or something?
I didn't say that.
i just find it unfair ro not cricket as you wouls state it to demand foreigners to speak english when you can't be bothered to do it yourself.
in my language ther is a saying that "you can not push a rope" (you have to pull a rope) meaning that you can not ask other people to adhere to your values unless you make an example adhering to said values.
you can not demand other peopke to speak English in your country when you yourself can't be bothered to speak said English language.

My daughter is studying Spanish language at Uni. She has spent 6mths in Spain on intl exchange studying it there too, so that helped with the speaking of it.
sssss. ...you can not demand other people to speak English in your country when you yourself can't be bothered to speak said English language
What do we speak then? If I go to UK or US I can understand them and they can understand me, we must be speaking the same language.
If people from other countries want to move to Australai no one makes them speak English. If they want to work here or they are children of school age they NEED to learn English.

I can write and speak fluently but i still have to nod and smile a lot when I try to talk to other people.
I leave almost ALL conversation to my hubby and ask him later what they said....
I don't feel my English skills to be insufficient to communicate but yet when there is a conversation coming up I step back and let hubby talk.

You seem to cope rather well with the English language for someone who admits to only learning it to fit in with the locals.....you have the idiom down pat....it is Linda, isn't it?

As someone who professes to hate Australian's as much as she does, saying as much on every ID she's had on the forums, plus on her facebook page, one has to wonder why she even bothers to live here. If the Czech Republic is so great and Australian's are so horrible, why doesn't she take her husband there to live?

I wouldn't say she hates Australia or Australians, she just shares her thoughts in a brash, honest way, I think.
