"Some single mothers hit by recent welfare cuts to parenting payments have turned to prostitution and strip clubs in order to keep a roof over their family's head."

Would you consider it if things got tough?
Would you have respect for these mums for turning to these jobs?

Well freaky.....it was Labor that took up to $100 p.w. off single mums wasn't it? correct me if I'm mistaken
It was Labor that took money off the single parents that were not included in the previous changes. The ones that were paid the higher rate because they had been single parents for longer.
You can't seriously believe that people are taking up prostitution as a last resort only 3 weeks after the changes. If they have chosen it as an easy way of earning cash, more power to them. I think it's a stretch to blame a 3 week old change of payment, especially as the school kid bonus is paid this month.

The loss of income is about $160 per fortnight based on a single parent with one child.
There are other losses based on single parents earning money from wages ... they can only earn money above about $64 per fortnight ... then they start losing money.

Oh, and sorry ...
It's a disgrace that the ALP has made single parents so much worse off ... both now and with the "Welfare to Work" changes in 2006.
It was the Coalition that made the Welfare to Work changes ... the ALP has continued them.
It's all a disgrace.
Who cares about our children?
And ... who cares about our children caring about our aged parents and grandparents?

it will be far worse if the liberal party get in and bring in their policy to cut those under 30 off newstart and take many off disability pensions.

If it ever came to a (very real) decision between 'THAT' and my kids going (seriously) hungry - would do it in a heartbeat, no contest

No One has suggested yet where the jobs are coming from and who is going to look after the children.

Just a thought for those looking for work - what about some of the Party Plan companies?
The one that sells plastic bowls has a good reputation - and you can work around when your kids are at school etc - it'd be like owning your own business - you decide when you want to work...
There's lots of different ones around
Kids Toys
Educational stuff
books
linen
adult toys
cookware/pots
plastic bowls
cleaning products
candles

So many threads on here complain, highlight and condemn overt male libido and unwanted advances yet most of the posts on tjhis thread are prepared to turn a blind eye, exploit and feed the same hunger because they need the cash and their kids are hungry
.... if that is not a great example of a vicious ( Given to vice, immorality, or depravity.) circle feeding itself then I am not playing

Yep I'm still keen to hear of a good business idea, the market is saturated with party plans and most people I know spend more than they make. The issue is that while we may come up with ideas, people still need the resources and the capital to start something up.

Vampire I read that with interest. I remember reading a speech by Joe Hockey indicating that they would be tougher on those on welfare but it was vague at the time. Do you have a link or resource?
