So What Did Everyone get for Christmas?

The funniest thing I got was a lidded plastic wine cup complete with a straw and a litlle bowl.

It had on it "Wine a little, laugh a lot" lol.

I got a new dressing gown, (that makes me the owner of six gowns now) a set of toiletry bags (again I have already three other sets) and a kids car set with window shades, seatbelt paddings and a thingy to hang from the front seat so the kids can put their books etc. into the pockets. All gifts in shades of purple.

LOL, I don't drive the car. OH does, and our great-grandcildren live in different states. We only see them once or twice a year, and I don't ever wear purple.

What is it with people that think because you are getting old, all you need is stuff to go to Hospital with?

But ----- the family gathering was great and we enjoyed the company and the spread my DIL provided. It was a wonderful Christmas Eve. Never mind the gifts, I really don't need anything else.

My gift to myself did not arrive in time 😞

I have been told that it is still in the manufacturing process and wont be ready for shipment until between mid January and early February.

I am not too fussed though I have been longing for it for many many years, and I can wait a while longer 🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I get your drift Erica lol.

What to buy Mum?

You say "nothing", but they can't in good conscience, buy you "nothing", because they love you, and they want to show it.

I bought little egg cups just like these. The cheapest gift at $10.95 and he was really chuffed with them.

Wish I'd bought more, my husband had to use a port glass last time we had boiled eggs!

OH received an air fryer. I am going to use it later to cook lamb chops and roasted spuds, bit nervous though.

Katey, I would be interested to hear what you think of it.  I have seen them in the shops and wondered if they were any good.

Sandy first effort was better than expected. I part cooked potatoes in the microwave, let them cool a bit, and cut them into roast spud size. One teaspoon of oil in bowl and coated the spuds. The lamb chops were pretty good too. Only 12 mins cooking time for the chops and spuds in together. No greasy pans to wash is a big bonus. There are only the two of us, I think a family would struggle to cook in volume.

I worked out what to get my mother (aside from the diary) a few years ago and have stuck with the idea since.  Mum doesn't want more stuff.....in fact she is slowly getting rid of some of it.  Mum is 86 but still active and in her own home.  However...

Grocery shopping is limited to what she can carry, if she can get a neighbour or my brother to take her, or home delivery (but unlike online shopping they won't take frozen food as they don't have refrigerated vans).

She likes the convenience of frozen food on the occasions when she can't be bothered putting in a lot of effort for meals, but it is very heavy to carry even a couple of boxes, so every Christmas I fill one of those Woolies padded cooler bags (they are bigger than the Coles version) with her favourite frozen foods - from ready meals to veggies to desserts - whatever can be packed in tight.  I also usually include a 1litre long life milk for emergencies, and if there is any room left a box of chocolates on top (this year it was Ferrero Rocher).  This year the cooler bag weighed a tonne and I had difficulty carrying it.  I also like to put something in that she hasn't tried before along with her favourites.

Mum has a good sized freezer and we filled up a comlete drawer nicely.  I don't have a big freezer so my fridge's freezer looks like Mother Hubbard's cupboard at the moment.  At last I can buy stuff just for me this week!
