So disappointed in Joe :(

I cannot believe how much Mr Hockey has disappointed me this year.Woman Sad

ASPIRING treasurer Joe Hockey has been caught breaching parliamentary rules after failing to declare a family interest for almost his entire 17-year career in federal parliament.

Mr Hockey declared the directorship of Steel Harbour Pty Ltd held by his wife, Melissa Babbage, in May last year among a series of "new positions" under spouse declaration rules.

But business records show Ms Babbage was appointed to the role in 1998.

Pecuniary interest register declarations are supposed to be made within a month.

His weight loss didn't make him breach parliamentary rules

I don't think anyone suggested that was the case.

He looks unwell to me............. as for his wife and her position, I can't imagine he wouldn't know she held that position ..........

I think that you are right LL, they'd have to not talk and not live together  at least and even then I really doubt that that he couldn't know...children talk, other people talk (about all sorts of things ..) ,phone calls get overheard/answered,mail gets seen etc.

Brigg's nonanswer is straight out of their book

exactly iza.  try and keep a secret in a household like that ... unless of course the level of self-absorption is too high of course .. a bit like they accuse Rudd of ? will joe's defenders say 'oh , he has to keep his eye on the ball.. all of his attention is focused on the job'  and yet go back and accuse the PM (who actually has a demanding job) of narcissism ?  too transparent for words.. (well not quite, we tend to find some) Smiley Happy

Not defending Mr Hockey but my husband wouldn't of had a clue what I did with the bookwork or the money, what a/c's we had, how much  came in and went out each month. He did the hands on labour work, I did the books.

But your OH is not trying to manage the books in running a country and nor does he have a legal requirement to declear his interests, I wonder how Joe citizen would go using that excuse at centerlink  for not declaring income or assets

You are failing to understand that Mr Hockey may / has / should have complete faith and trust in what his wife does, it's what married folk do. Or should do?

yes, but he also has a responsibility to stick to the rules. for instance the boss requires an 8am start, and the employee ignores that and wanders in at ten every day. MP's have to declare financial interests.. its the law, and one he has flouted for more than a decade.
