So, what's the story with the Bendigo Bank?

Seems to be a bit of an uproar going on.

So, what's the story with the Bendigo Bank?

do you mean this?...

Bendigo Bank has closed The Concerned Citizens Fundโ€™s bank account citing the groupโ€™s aims as, โ€œ.... not in keeping with the Bankโ€™s values of diversity and inclusivenessโ€.

The group was maintaining the bank account to finance its objections to a $3 million mosque project planned for Rowena Street, Bendigo.....

ahhh that was it, thanks.

I saw lots of hate posts but couldn't work out who had done what.

The stuff being said against the bank on facebook is not pretty.

The account was most likely closed due to the horrific bigotry displayed on the groups Facebook page rather than this excert from Pickering's article, as that doesn't fit with the Banks value's

Heads are likely to roll at the Bendigo Bank which has buckled to Islamic demands that the Concerned Citizensโ€™ bank account be closed or financing for the planned mosque, along with private accounts, will be taken elsewhere.

But the loss of less than 100 Islamic accounts will pale in significance when compared to the loss of angry clientsโ€™ accounts of the fifth biggest bank in Australia with 540 branches across the country.

That part of Pickering's article is hearsay and not fact so I'd treat his ramblings with a grain of salt.

Many comments on Bendigo Banks Facebook page are trying to steer the reason to being rather to do with the fact that the Bank also has an account there for the group raising funds to build the Mosque.   Most of the comments are screaming discrimination rather than looking at the fact that the group against the Mosque value's don't sit well with theirs so they're well within their rights to close the account whereas the group raising money to build the Mosque have done none of what that objecting group has.

Maybe the folks doing the building--have more money in the

bank than the protesters--just saying..........Richo.

it's horrible, whats being said by our fellow countrymen. I can really understand why Lobs felt so ashamed of some of her townsfolk.

Ignorance and fearmongering abounds

i wouldn't be sure they are locals. well not all of them. its a bit like the ''Waubra Group'' the person behind that is a woman from adelaide sarah lawrie.  they come in, stir up a few locals but the campaign is more national than local. . donations and support from like minded folks goes into the account from all over the place. its a lucrative business .

yes, you're right LL, I'm making assumptions.  Being facebook, the people could be from anywhere. I'm just gobsmacked at the hatred towards the people wanting a mosque.
