I bought a solar powered "fountain" few weeks ago. My pond does need to be aerated and I expected to get something that looked like the pic, which depicted water spouting up to a great height. Well what arrived was a solar panel that just about fits to the palm of my hand (I thought it will be about 30 x 30cm), the pump is so tiny (2"long) that I am sure it would get clogged up the moment I put it into my pond. It makes a lovely little water feature in large ice cream container (waiting to get around buying ceramic dish). But i have to say that I am rather impressed that water was being pumped all day today despite it being very dark murky day, totally overcast. So much for saying that solar panels do not work unless it is sunny. It is 6 pm and it still squirts water to about 20cm high 🙂

My son has a waterfall into a fish pond, the rosella's are fed maple syrup on bread, when they finish they go for a dip under the waterfall.

Deb, if they are late to feed them, they get on the widow sill and tap on the widow with their beak's, or climb up the screen door, they eat out of their hands.

We got a swimming pool instead but I think I would have got more use out of the pond.
I had a friend who turned his pool into a yabbie pond

If I'd ever buy a house with a pool, this is what I would do with it:

That looks great! I don't reckon I'd get away with it though. Mine would probably look nice because it has a limestone edging.
I'm quite sure that turning it into a pond would require just as much maintenance as a swimming pool or else you would just end up with a giant mosquito breeding ground.
How do they stop the fish getting into the filter basket?
