Some Things are Meant To Be.

Woman Surprised

3 weeks ago, I walked into a nursing home up the road from our home and asked if they had a vacancy for my father in law. He had been assaulted by his room mate in the nursing home he was in, 3 hours away from us.

A few days later, he moved in, to his own single room with ensuite.Woman Happy (Dementia unit.)

He has settled in well and is content, well cared for and his quality of life is vastly improved. He is eating again and putting weight back on. The staff love him as he is a real gentleman and very caring, as well as having a sense of humour.

We decided to personalise his room and make it more homelike, photos on the walls, a flatscreen tv, a quilt on his bed, now for a comfy chair! So I thought red was the best, brightest and fitting colour.

I looked online and rang some stores without any luck. 😞

This morning I went to HN to get the only one I had found that was suited to the space but brown, as I drove up, my parking spot was in front of a furniture store, you know the ones that are very expensive and you don't go there unless wanting a family heirloom?Woman Wink

I felt like something was telling me to go in...... so I did............ salesperson asked me if I was looking for anything in particular and I replied "yes, not sure if you will have what I want though" and kept walking to the back of the store..........................and there it was, just behind a hallstand!!!!!Woman Surprised

A red leather recliner lounge, slightly narrower than the norm.............

Salespersons follows me and said "that chair is half the usual price today, $549 and comes in 3 other colours"

I was expecting to pay $1500 for a yukky brown one in HN................

Salesperson said something was leading me to that spot, as she watched me go straight to it..............

So, I bought it for a bit less than the price and delivered!........................and my OH said he thought it was a bit on the expensive side!!!!Woman Mad

I want to change his curtains now......... wondering if I should strike while things are going well and try Spotlight?

Smiley Happy Good of you to personalise your FIL's room, sounds great, esp the quilt and the red chair.

Yes it's strange how things like that can happen.  I've often passed on buying something and not been sure

why until I found exactly what I wanted elsewhere.  Perhaps it's karma?

Lovely that you and your FIL are so close, it will give him a lot of comfort.

He deserves it, he is a lovely man. Had he not gotten dementia, I think he would have remarried and someone would have been lucky to have him.

However, this is about the meant to be things that happen 🙂

Anyone else have a story of something that was meant to be?

lol, we got dad a yucky brown recliner from Harvey Norman Smiley Tongue  Actually its very comfortable and matches the oak hall table/desk and the timber bookcase units we bought him. His tv is to be mounted on the wall and I'm considering changing his drapes to venetian blinds, maybe timber. His room looks out on a nice garden.

I love that we can personalise the room.

Some Things are Meant To Be.

What a lovely story away from the usual political doom and gloom, fighting and aggression that goes on in some threads.

Thank you, I hope you FIL is happy.

Keep it nice, I might cry if you write anything upsetting (like not)

Yes I have a meant to be story, it still makes me shiver.  .   17 years ago I got a little puppy from a breeder. but after about 3 weeks I

decided to return him as I wasn't at all well at the time and felt it difficult to cope.  So I rang the breeder and started the

long drive there with puppy on the seat next to me.  Anyway as I was driving I noticed the red light come on in my

engine, and just made it to a garage before the motor went.  I spent a fair time at the garage while he told

me what was wrong and I had to ring a tow truck as they couldn't fix it there.

So puppy and I waited in the car for the tow truck (he had water, yes, lol)  and for a second he looked at me in a very serious way, and

I looked back -  and then I just knew he was mine and  forever.  Just  like that.

So I rang the breeder and said to forget it, and took him home on my lap in the tow truck.

I had Shannon for 16 years and he passed last year, but I can't express the richness and love he bought

to my life.

And I could have missed out on all that if my car hadn't broken down. It was definitely meant to be.
