We know some dog breeds suffer. So why do we keep buying them?
i so wanted a british bulldog once as in my childhood (when i was under 5) my mum n dad had one.
had it not been for the cost for a pup, $1500+ at the time i most likely would have had one.
i chose a beagle instead, still expensive at $600 for a pub.
learned a lesson in the complications of in breeding when my little beagle had to be put to sleep at 2 years old due to a deformed spine that caused the spinal cord to be squashed causing seveer pain to her.
sad those in control of the dog showing/beeding system dont put dog health at the top of the list of traits to be bred into dogs (or cats)
its another reason i love greyhounds so much, they are purposly bred to be the healthiest dog possible, the fact they are perfect in every other way was pure luck.

There are similar issues with some cat breeds. Manx cats for instance where spinal deformities have been well known for a long time.
There are also cat breeds that were OK for years and years until some stupid breeders bred them for flatter faces for example. Some breeds (particularly longhaired ones) look dreadful compared to how they were only a few decades ago, and issues with weeping eyes and breathing through the nose for some persians was extended to other breeds for a supposedly better look.
There are also cats that exhibit genetic defomities and breeders have rushed to repeat them creating new breeds that are to the pets' detriment.
It makes me SO angry!!
