She heard noises for weeks then her children started being scared of noises they could hear. She called a neighbour in to get him to check for rats or possums?, (sis's OH) they were standing in the kitchen... and he jumped down from the manhole, 2 metres away, dressed in commando gear, sweat covered, smelly....... AHA, I caught You!!!!
Would have been funny if it wasn't so scarey and sad. The police came and took him to the hospital where they discovered he had been getting in each day via the roof tiles.

the thing is, once they are in the roof, they can easily get into the house, through the manhole. Where is your manhole? In the garage or in the main part of the house?
I suppose BIL checked the roof cavity to see that no-one was still up there?
This happened to my sister - kids got in and stole a heap of stuff (dvds, jewellery etc) - they broke through the ceiling though so it was pretty obvious when she got home and saw this big hole in the ceiling.

If the intruder could have been seen during daylight, it would appear this was done at night. Have you been out at night and your ex was aware you wouldn't be home?

seems a lot of effort to get into a house, wouldn't it be easier to jimmy a bathroom window or something? also odd they wouldn't do it at a more less obvious place like at the back of the house if they chose to break in that way.

Kylie, be careful. This is what happened to my cousin's daughter. An ex hid in the roof and you might remember what happened when she went out with someone else 6 months after breaking with him - a real case of fatal attraction. Is J mentally stable?
thanks Sandy.
i had my doubts about his mental stability, he's taken the break up so hard.
i know he has been parked in another street watching me and tries to keep me at home waiting for him to visit hiss daughter, if he knows I've got a P-T apt he will deliberately come late!
he has ranted about me wanting to see " other guys" but not shown any signs of violence against me. I don't feel at all frightened of him, just feel sorry for him.
all I can really do is report every/anything that concerns me.
i just can't believe he would do something like that?!

the manhole is in my sons bedroom!!
we converted the single garage into a bedroom for him when I fell pregnant, as its under the same roof so easily done without looking bodgey.
yes BIL checked, but maybe not into every corner?
the ex came over for a visit with daughter last night so if it was him? He wasn't trapped in there.

Kylie, maybe go and phone the police ? Like.....now ?

i know, I thought the same!
thats why my dad thought it had to be the ex.

Kylie, I take it that someone's checked out the roof cavity for you,to make sure no-ones in there?
Az, that sounds like a comedy sketch, but it's scary the lengths some will go to

Can you get your BiL to put a bolt on the inside of the manhole cover? It might make you feel a little more secure if you know they can't get in that way.
I know someone can still smash through the ceiling but at least it's something.
