Someone tried to break into my house! :(

Yesterday while I was at work, the neighbour across the road came over to tell my grandmother (at my house babysitting 13 month old) that there are roof tiles lifted and a big hole that will let in a lot of the rain forecast for the afternoon!?!?

She had a look and it was pretty easy to see. At the front of the house.
Luckily my BIL is a builder and once I'd had the phone calls at work, my sis phoned her hubby to pop over and check it out.

He said that tiles had been pulled off enough to let a person slip through! He replaced the tiles and sealed some cracked ones next to the removed ones.

About 20 mins later we had a quick but heavy downpour of rain so happy that he fixed it.....

But now I'm worried! Why would someone want to come in through the roof? It's pretty open at the front of the house, surely a would-be thief would go around the back where it's less open and break in through a window or back glass door?

I had trouble sleeping last night, and feel very uneasy today 😕

I'm home now til Mon, need to speak to neighbours and go to local Police station to make a report.

No offense twinkles but are you a roofer?  i.e. can you state with certainty that it's deliberate interference?  If not, then the OP would be best to ask a roofer....!!!  Nobody is really an expert here.

OP...above all else, you need to Stay calm...breath...& think clearly.   I'm not doubting the BIL's concern...but he's involved...obviously, so he can't really be objective.  He wants to protect you naturally & that's really good.

Even so to satisfy the cops and set your mind at ease beforehand...you need to Send these pics to a roofer and ask them if this kind of thing can happen by chance or otherwise.  That's where I'd start before hyperventilating. 

You're doing yourself and your child no favours getting panicked is all I'm saying. ({particularly if you do have to act quickly in an emergency situation).... Because you and the ex are at war, it's natural to think anything out of the ordinary might be associated with that...but your baby needs you to stay calm.  

I can tell you're a bit scared...that's OK...but stay calm because you can't deal with the inevitable truce you'll have to work out with the ex....He's your child's dad and he will have access unless the law disallows it.  You have to find a way to sort this out is what I'm saying...hope I'm not imposing....just feel for what you must be experiencing right now & work in a field that has empathy for that kinda thing...just saying.;-)

Hope you sort it out...but before panicking....just take stock & breath !!!

Tiles can be moved by the wind such as happened to me ...but the pics by Klyie look more like soemone has moved them IMO.

and I think Kylie had a roofer or a builder look at them.

yea but thats because there no guttering there, so, nailing prevents the tiles from shifting side ways, its the same on a couple sections on my roof.

what are you saying Joz? that it should or shouldn't be nailed ??

I was talking about the little round hole in the tile which is there to be nailed through - as required.

no I am not a roof tiler....but have a little insight into roof tiles following the the problem with my own roof due to non compliance which resulted in a 10 page report by an expert.

...again twinkles...no offense, but you can't generalise your own 'expert report' to someone else's situation...(e.g. the law wouldn't recognise that).....it's a matter of elimination....that's all....How hard is that?

Rabbit, Along the edge of a roof i believe tiles should be nailed if it looks like there will be sideway movement. As for nailed tiles anywhere else? Nah, An intruder can still lift up and break nailed down tiles..to gain entry.

Hey kylie! I agree with everyone else... My first thought was the ex too. I was thinking tho he prob did it so he could get in to scare With noises you so he could be the protector and you would take him back. 

That was what I thought as well.  Maybe not even to actually get in but to make it appear as if someone  attempted to break in to make you afraid of being alone with the kids.  The damage was done in an obvious place to make sure you noticed it.
