I just collected a package from the post office from the Australian Government (that's what it said on the envelope) It was addressed to my OH - it had all this informational stuff in it about bowel cancer.
Yeah, yeah, keeping people informed etc - but the postage alone must have been $3 plus the cost of whatever was in the package (it was A4 and chockers and I reckon must have only made the 20mm thick rule by a cat's whisker) and the wage of the person who had to correlate it all and pack it.
But it was specifically addressed to him, so there is a system somewhere deciding who gets these packages.
My OH has no history of cancer, so why they picked him out I have no idea.
Wonder how many other people got these and how much this drained the coffers.
Sure, keep people informed etc, but I reckon I could think of a few less expensive ways to do it.

yw joz.
Crikey I hope you see that it is important for people to complete the test and send a sample back... even though one doesn't think they have cancer.
yes, I do get that and understand the importance of the test, and the benefits of the preventative measures being taken. That's a no brainer. I'm just pleased that there is more to the package than just information.
I'd still be curious to know how many people actually do complete the test in this manner - ie the hit miss ratio

i'm only 42 so they won't be sending me a kit.
I have to have a colonoscopy every year cause they found a rarer type of polyp.
the procedure itself Is no sweet you get knocked out
the worst bit is drink you have to start the day before

prevention is better than cure ? I have had the drink but had to take it for 4 days before so you are lucky, lost weight and my cheeks caved in. Unlike you I was all clear so hope you remain healthy.

It used to really bug me that school would post 3 separate report cards in three separate envelopes all to the one address and then want us to do fundraising for something or other - not to mention I only lived about 700m from the school, was there every day,
Not every day.
What was that you said on here about others in the community taking your children to school and bringing them home and that was why you were able to study all night and all day and post on here 24/7 and that you didn't sleep very much at all?

so why not just put notices up in doctor's surgeries and places like that? Chemists? I reckon this pack must have cost $5 (with the postage)
Why not just a 60 cent letter giving the short and sweet version and reminder? There's that much in this pack I doubt many people will actually read it all. (People don't even read the scrollers or long C&P's on CS LOL
I dunno, but there seems to be plenty of awareness around for health checks etc
to me it just seems like an awful lot of money to spend on just awareness iykwim - reckon it could have been better managed to reduce the cost and channel a bit of the money into the health department or something to actually help the people who are getting the treatment..
and even if people do get tested etc and need treatment - how long before they can actually get the treatment? Reckon they'd be better off spending $1 on awareness and the other $4 on shortening the waiting periods to fix what they're making everyone aware of!
It is NOT awareness kit it is a TEST KIT You send a sample for testing for cancer.
If you choose to ignore a free cancer test that can detect it early enough to help yourself then is that so bad?
It is cheaper than what it would cost the government for the treatment of cancer not found early enough which may not work then a FREE TEST KIT is a way better option.
