I hear Daikin are best, but they're also the most expensive and I'll be needing 2 so I'm not sure they'll be in the budget.
I got a quote from a guy who recommended Samsung, which looked pretty good, but I found a user review site that rated them rather poorly. They weren't even included in Choice's last review.
So what have you got and are you happy with it. I'm particularly interested in heating ability and energy efficiency rather than cooling.

Sometimes that's why people put them on the verge, Joz. The quality from a shop bought one might be better.

Punch.........where I work we put in 20 odd Daiken split systems 8-9 years ago.......... at a cost of about $5000 each.....................with servicing them every year we had not much trouble for the first 6-7 years.
Then the compressor went in nearly all of them...........at a cost of about $1500 to repair......but that was claimable on insurance as the motors were less than 10 years old.
I would recommend the brand.

Our Daikin is heat and cool, although it is mostly used in summer for cooling. In winter we have ducted heating.

Forgot to say..............none of the ones we bought were wall mounted........they all went into existing fireplaces.........and the cost including the installation....and removal of the wood heaters.

We put 2 Mitsubishi invertor units in our Canberra house so I can vouch for their heating capabilities. They kept us toasty in the depth of winter. And with the timer we always woke up warm and then came home to a warm house in the evenings too.
Never had any problems and were very happy with them. One was slightly newer than the other and much quieter when running.
Joz, someone, I think it was a service person, told us that Mitsubishi Electric is a completely different company from Mitsubishi cars or whatever so there is no comparing them for quality?

lurker
i assume mitsu electric is part of mitsu corp group, the emblems on my tv & vid are the same as on the cars

this multiple group of companies can perhaps be best described as a handy man, tricks of all trades..professional of none :8}

Thanks everyone. I'm waiting for a price on Daikins, not sure I can stretch that far though. I was hoping to get away with 1 large unit for around $3000, but I'll probably need to go with 2 smaller units to heat/cool the area more efficiently, which will cost more like $4000. I'm expecting the Daikins to be another $1000 again 😞 had a look on their website and they seem to have some better options with the indoor part than the others do. The floor units may even be better for me than the wall ones, they probably cost even more :_|
I've had quotes on both samsung and panasonic, will look around for someone selling mitsubishis and see what they'll cost 🙂
