the Youth of the Liverpool Plains are hitting Lane Cove tomorrow.
If you have nothing better to do pop along to Lane Cove plaza and meet some of the young farmers trying to protect their farmland. They will be there from 12:00 to 2pm followed by a presentation to Anthony Roberts at the civic centre at 3 pm.

Interesting to see, is it not, how the issue of refugees on the other side of the world can create such a heated debate, yet the plight of our own farmer, who are suffering under a similar foreign invasion, barely gets a glance?
Who do we think is going to feed all these refugees we're taking in if we let all our agriculture and water resources be destroyed by mining?
Oh that's right, we can import it from China, seeing their buying up our farms as well.

I think you'll find that most support the farmers and don't agree with this mine going ahead, so there is nothing to debate

Oh, right.
So where's the outrage, Deb?
Where are the millions of dollars going to drought relief? Where is the housing for those families driven off the land by rapacious banks? Where are the government benefits and welfare? Where is the government spending in investment for infrastructure, education in rural communities?
Why can we have endless press coverage on overseas refugees and endless pages of comment on social media and forums like this one, but there's barely a comment on our own tragedies like drought, homelessness, the Ice epidemic right here in our own backyard?
Where are the bleeding hearts, Deb?

Dammit! Went there thinking it was today. Whe we didn't see anything resembling farmers, I checked your post and realised it was from the 11th, so your "tomorrow" turned out to be yesterday.
Oh well. It was such a beautiful day to be out and about. We hadn't been to Lane Cove for ages. Hubs used work there. We had lunch at the "Longy", the Longueville Hotel, where we used to go after Hubby's work.

I think the digging commences in December.
Thanks for the thought Icy, I believe they had a great turnout.
I really should get off my butt and go and take some photos of Shenhua land. I was horrified last week when some sheilah on the tv waved her hand and said that other mine up there in NSW, there's no water there and the farmers sold it because it can't be farmed. POPPYCOCK. I wish people would come and see the land before making such ignorant statements. And that goes for the man who has the pretty geological maps off the internet.
It is agricultural land. It supports cropping and grazing. It does have water underneath it. It is now Chinese owned and even though not all of it will have a hole in it, all of it has been taken out of agricultural production.
