I listened to Amanda Vanstone and Grahame Richardson this morning and what I heard was very concerning.
They both agreed that what ever party wins the election in September the GST will most likely rise at some stage to at least 15% because the deficit at this stage ( and rising) is so huge and there is NO money in the coffers.
The mining boom has weakened somewhat and this government has grossly overspent, the OZ dollar is to strong against other currencies but GR stated any credible treasury department would have foreseen and taken appropriate measures long before now because the OZ dollar has been high for over 2 years.
The Swan budget will be interesting but I think it will be his "swan song"

Twinks.. I have no history of paying back any loan, CC or anything.. I have never had it.. I am a single parent and need to prove that I am capable of paying back a debt before I will get considered for a loan.
If I don't I can't get approved for a house loan.. ever..
That is the advice of a bank manager..
he might be wrong but I am willing to listen as he is the one I will go to when it comes time to buy a home.

John I accent the term average to refer to the average wage earner, how many people do you personally know that earn $1300 a week or more.
I only know one and he drives interstate trucks and works 7 days a week and sleeps in his truck when not driving.

Not necessarily John if I didn't buy a car I couldn't get anywhere so my CC was handy in buying a vehicle simply as that I couldn't come up with the cash required up front and didn't want a car loan because its too expensive, but I could afford to pay off the credit card which is a very low interest one and also knew when I had lump sums coming. So for me it works well, and its only a tool.
I've used one many times over the years through lines of credit etc and always came out ahead so I'll agree to disagree on that one ๐

cat on this very rare occasion I do agree with what she said, credit reports only show how many times you have applied and been rejected for loans or have defaulted, they dont show if you have paid on time and been a good payer.
I had not had any personal loans or credit cards before I got our first house loan.
I also hadn't had any person loans or rental purchase or any thing on hire before getting bank loans for rental houses.
To get a home loan all you need to show is a savings history and the ability to repay the loan.

That's not a high gross wage.

Just listened to the leader of the Greens on ABC24 and I must admit I agreed with 80% of what she said, she speaks well.

Cats_ back if you ever go for a home loan the key is to have as much savings as possible and go through a good broker. It is possible to get a loan on income support its hard but can be done. You do need a good sized deposit though.

so how many people do you know that earn that or more?
do both you and your partner earn more? $2600 plus a week

cat......I walked away from the bank I had been with for over 30 years where I had both personal And business a/c to another bank. All they required was a clear credit history showing nothing. They didn't ask for proof of previous loans paid out. I just wanted to point that out knowing bank employees get bonus points for each new a/c opened and you may be paying fees .
