We want to go camping in a camper van and thought that it would be handy if we had internet access while travelling. So the obvious choice is a tablet (over a laptop).
We don't want apple so it's gonna be a samsung like that one 291561600307 maybe.
We don't want to spend $1000 for the latest one, we just need something to check out on the internet what things worth seeing are around us, the next shop/whatever.
We have seen them in optus shops but are not sure if it's better to buy one on ebay and then get a contract for the internet or go into an optus/telstra shop and buy one there.
What do you think?

The one in that link is a mini tablet.
We have a galaxy, its a couple of years old, had no issues with it at all.
We originally bought it on a plan for $54 per month which included some data and the repayment for the device. The plan is up next month and I'll be changing to a data share plan. I can get a sim for $5 per month from telstra and instead of having its own data it will be able to tap into the data allowance from our 3 mobile phones. So if you have a mobile account with a provider that does data sharing then something like that may be an option.
Personally I dont buy anything off ebay that I'd expect a warranty for, too easy to get stung.

Telstra has the best coverage, I dont think you'll get anyone disputing that. I believe they own the infrastructure. I have to be with telstra where I live, there's almost no other provider that gets reception here.

we have an old mobile phone with a $20 prepaid "contract" so maybe the data sharing is not necessary.
good point with the warranty.

cos we don't have one. we have a mobile phone, one that can do phone calls and SMS.
also we want a bigger screen than 10 cm.
re punch: just got my measuring tape out. 7 inch isn't a lot LOL, thought it would be bigger.

Just curious why don't you want an apple product? the ipad and ipad minis are excellent.
My little ipad mini is 21 x 14 in is cover. The actual screen size is 16.5 x 12cm. It would be perfect for travelling.

ipads are different altogether.
