Ok we have had the "Poor Illegal Refugee" the "Poor Dole Bludger" the "Poor whatever" thread so now what about the "Poor Self Inflicted Addict" thread.

We may as well add them to the taxpayers  burden as well. We can cater for their "special needs" out of the bottomless pit of our national debt.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Nova, why do you think it strange that when someone is describing them self they use the word "I" in their description?

What gives you the idea that I consider anyone who is not like me or disagrees with my viewpoint or ideals is contemptible?

I have not said or implied any such thing.

If a person is not like me or disagrees with my viewpoint or ideals it just indicates that we differ, nothing more, nothing less.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

If I hear a baby cry I want to say to the mother or father give me the baby for a minute, I cant stand to hear a baby cry it is like a alert system.

I really have to walk away, it is like a physical pain.

Goodness, Poddy, I would never dream of  attributing any thoughts to you.  When I said "I think"  the thought I was expressing  was my thought, not yours or  anybody elses - though to be honest  I do suspect quite a few people here share it.

If you wish to refute the accuracy of my thought, then you can easily do so by explaining exactly what you did mean by "the great unwashed."

Google is your friend too Ele, not only Rosie's 🙂

But I have a sneaking suspicion that you are well aware of that particular phrase

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

the term is used in a derogatory manner by the self importand to describe people they feel are inferior or lower class, so I think the use of it is pretty self explanatory...

This topic is about compassion for people who are suffering such a pain that they turn to drugs or alcohol to block that pain.  If you are really so fortunate that you have it all, money and good health, why would you feel the need to gloat?  If you are really so lucky how dare you to criticise those so much less fortunate?  Maybe you should take the time and read what you write because most of you posts just reek of contempt to other people.

Nova, do you really think that all junkies are suffering excruciating pain and that is why they take drugs??

I am not referring to the chronically ill and infirmed, I refer to the general junkie who takes drugs so that they can escape reality rather than face up to it.

What gives you the impression that I am gloating? Is stating facts gloating in your understanding?

It is true that I hold some people in contempt but they are few and far between and richly deserve that contempt.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

That's not right at all Poddster.  Most young people don't start taking drugs for that reason although they do keep taking them at times for that reason.

What reasons do they have/give for starting on the road to addiction?
