Tasmania enforces tough border laws

All travellers arriving in Tasmania, including those returning home, will be asked to fill out a Tasmanian Arrivals Card, which will help the Government keep track of them.

From midnight on Friday, all "non-essential" travellers into the state will have to go into 14 days' quarantine, he said.

So what is the mainland waiting for?

What do you mean by "what is the mainland waiting for?"

We should stop tasmanians coming to the mainland.

Not sure how you could stop people on the mainland crossing borders. Trump can't stop the mexicans what hope would Scott have.

On a funny side I did hear the nsw premier talking about  needing people for cleaning and fencing for future jobs. Which would make sense now if they want to close state borders.

It might come down to all Australians (that is, in all Australian States including island Tasmania) not crossing each other's borders to help stop/slow down the rate of infection until the all clear is given.

It is important to remember that we are all in this together, and we are all responsible for doing the right thing, and doing the best we can to help each other.  If that means staying put for the duration, so be it.

Australia does not have a dual country border, separating two very different countries.

I can see how shutting tasmania is easy but the other states.

There are many towns that are on the border. So how would this work.

I have no idea of how it might work.  There are borders that exist whether there are towns on/near them or not.  All people should and could do is act with appropriate behaviour under very difficult circumstances and do everything they can to be part of the solution, not a part of the problem.

It wouldn't be easy   ..... We are close to the Vic/SA border, there are dozens n dozens ( prob more ) of sm  back roads drivers can use to cross over the border, it would be impossible to patrol them all.

Can't.

Because of Tasmania I'm not allowed to own a gun.

If I still had my bow...
