Tears Flow On The Breakfast Show

Yumi got all emotional, crying and blowing her nose, and had me in tears as well.

They have a segment where they invite people to air their problems, like Yumi and Sami are Agony Aunts sort of thing.

Listener emailed them with her problem:

She and her fiance recently lost their 14 week-old baby.

Since then they have been arguing and fighting a lot.

They were due to get married in Bali soon. Listener's fiance now doesn't want to go ahead with the weeding but still wants them to go for the holiday.

Listener is shocked he doesn't want to get married anymore and feels she needed that commitment from him. She doesn't think she could go through the motions of a holiday while she's still grieving.

He just wants them to get away from the unhappiness but is not ready for stress of a wedding in light of their grief. He's happy to postpone the wedding for future date.

Yumi thinks they shouldn't go

Sami thinks they should. So do I

Other callers were evenly for and against.

What do you think?

I think I am not a qualified grief or marriage counsellor so I have no right to advise them what they should do.

They would be better off seeing a professional not some bimbo on a talk show.

I guess that was her choice.

I think that now the baby isn't here anymore he may feel he doesn't HAVE to marry her now.

Losing a child puts enormous strain on relationships and many of them do break down folwing that trauma. I don't  think anyone can or should to try to advise a couple in that situation, just listen to them, acknowledge their grief and confusion  and encourage them to lsten to each other

Well...nobody really HAS to get married because there's a baby on the way, Crystal.

It was made clear that he still wanted to be with her. He just didn't want a wedding at this time.

I think they should go, just to get away for a while from the scene of the tragedy.

It may also be easier for them to talk it out and become close once more.

Yes I would've suggested that too, Lion. Quiet days walking on the beach, gazing out over the ocean. Quiet candle-lit nights on the terrace with cicadas chirping in the background.
Maybe get them in the mood to start another baby.

I'd go for that, but people grieve differently,of course.
