Tell Dad To Get Routed

Radio host Ray Hadley has demanded an investigation after a "highly offensive" and "very poor taste" ad for a street directory was broadcast during his 2GB morning show.

The advertisement, for the 2016 UBD Gregory's Street Directory, encouraged listeners to tell their dad to "get routed" in a crude play on words.

"Ever wanted to tell dad to get routed? Well, this Father's Day, you've got the opportunity to do exactly that," the ad said, before promoting the directory.

"With over 600 new roads added this year, he'll be sure to love being told to get routed. Hey dad, get routed."

Hadley said he received several complaints from listeners about the ad and swiftly returned to the air to let them know he was also outraged.

"To all the people who've sent me emails and called about the offensive ad about the street directory I've just had a quick discussion with the people in charge.

The ad will never be heard here again, either on this program or others."

He said there would be an inquiry into the ad, which had originated in Melbourne.

"They don't know how it got through the system. But they'll be an inquiry. They tell me it came out of Melbourne. Well it may pass muster in Melbourne, it doesn't pass muster here I can tell you."

Hadley said he had found the ad particularly offensive as he had lost his father.

"As someone who won't be celebrating Father's Day with my father given that he passed 40 years ago I'm even more offended by it," Hadley said.

"Whoever decided at some advertising agency or part of this network that it passed muster needs to be pulled into line immediately and rest assured they will be."

Hardie Grant Publishing, which publishes the UBD Gregory's Street Directory, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

I was actually listening to the show when it was played on air. It was rather crass.I remember thinking "someone thinks they're very clever making such a rude play on words".

Next thing there's Ray Hadley doing his 'nana over it, lol. Don't blame him.

Whoever okayed that needs to understand the difference between funny and rude.

LOL 😄  That one actually made me laugh Kopes.

I really don't like the gutter dweller type ads though.
