You have to ask a couple of questions

How poorly will Phoney Fibbott handle the situation?

Will he pull out his trusty "you're our best friend" book and his apology notes again? Again.

How much further can the Libs erode our relationship with Indonesia?

Will the Libs tell the Indonesians it's an operational matter and so cannot be discussed? Lol

Take a look at the Jakarta post today and read the opinion page, it's very interesting.

in july 2009 the marriot and the ritz carlton in Jakarta were bombed , the phones hacked in august 2009.

''At around 07:47 until 07:57 WIB (00:47-00:57 UTC) on 17 July 2009,[4] the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Hotels in Jakarta, Indonesia, were hit by separate bombings five minutes apart.[2][5] Three of the seven victims who were killed were Australians, two from The Netherlands, and one each from New Zealand and Indonesia.[2][6] More than 50 people were injured in the blasts.[6][7][8] Both blasts were caused by suicide bombers, who checked into the hotels as paying guests several days earlier.[9] The twin suicide bombings came four years after the last serious terrorist attack in Indonesia.[10]''

Spies also tracked activity on his mobile phone for 15 days in August 2009."

Of course Abbott is to blame. He obviously started it all.

Yes, I have an opinion. No you don't have to agree with it. Yes I do have a right to it.

They all knew about it, seems it is common practice and looks like they just were not expecting to get caught.

Exactly, AZ.

And now they've been caught, it will rely on good leadership to deal with the situation.

The office of Prime Minister Tony Abbott has released a short statement.

Consistent with long-standing practice of Australian governments, and in the interest of national security, we do not comment on intelligence matters.

Tony Abbot's response:

First of all, all governments gather information and all governments know that every other government gathers information. I should add for the Member's benefit that the Australian government never comments on specific intelligence matters. This has been the long tradition of governments of both political persuasions and I don't intend to change that today.

I should also say that the Australian Government uses all the resources at its disposal, including information to help our friends and our allies, not to harm them. My first duty is to protect Australia and to advance a national interest and I will never ever depart from that.

Consistent with that duty, I will never say or do anything that might damage the strong relationship and the close cooperation that we have with Indonesia, which is all in all, our most important relationship, a relationship that I am determined to foster, a relationship that I am determined will grow stronger in the months and years ahead.
