Just for Joani
An Oregon State Police trooper was wounded and a suspect killed in a shooting during a traffic stop on Interstate 84 Thursday.
The trooper pulled over a car just before 1 p.m. east of The Dalles. Investigators said the suspect got out of his car and shot at the trooper. The trooper returned fire.
The trooper was hit in the side, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police said the suspect got back in his car and attempted to drive off. The man got about a half mile down the highway before stopping the car again.
Other law enforcement officers responding to the shooting said they found the man hunched over his steering wheel. Officers pulled him out of the car and attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said three children were inside the suspect's car. Their ages are not yet known, but they are believed to be older than 10 years old. Police said the kids were not hurt.

The police services are like doctors. Both get flack thrown at them by various ppl for various reasons. However when in trouble we have no problem calling for police assistance, and when a serious illness or accident occurs who is it we turn to?
There are bad seeds in all sectors, but the vast majority are selfless in their application of their education and training.

And don't forget, these State Police are still subject to the laws of the land and aren't nearly as protected as the military
so they have that hanging over there heads as well.
