The Seniors Thread :-)

"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 🙂

But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul.  We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.

The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there.  If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.

The  belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad.  Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people.  Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.

Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.

What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.

Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later.  We can talk about that too.

Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.

The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...

So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here 🙂

So, onward and upward.  Let's go...."

morning all......happy Easter or whatever you say....poor Jesus

Can any of you gerries answer this question for me?

My OH takes a "memory" pill to help with his vascular dementia.

We had to have a new script recently and after taking his memory tests, the doc. said yes it was working a little so could therefore give us a new script.

So here's the question that even the chemist can't answer.

The doc. couldn't (by law) give us the script during our visit, but had to POST it to us??????:O

What is the difference?  can anyone answer that for me?  there was no special registered mail or anything.

Gill, some drugs, if they are "experimental" have to be approved first, so perhaps he had to put in an application.

It is possible thast the script has to be approved by the Dept of Health.  I have had some medication that had to have approval from Dept of Health.

My grandmother used to take a medication which needed Health Dept. approval, and a few years ago I needed a medication needing approval.  In both cases the doctor just rang a special number and was issued with an Approval Number which had to be put on the script.

My father was on medication for osteoporosis which was only meant for women...men had to get a special approval for its use, and only if they were actually diagnosed with the condition. Initially the approval had to be done by mail, but after that it was just a phone call.

The phone calls can be very time consuming....maybe your doctor did not want to waste the time while he had patients waiting so used to do this sort of thing after hours.  The silly thing about it was that the calls had to be made by the doctor...he could not pass the job on to his nurse or practice manager to do.

Typical government time wasting IMO.

Have a great Easter folks.

Most time azure the doc rings for approval at the time, but maybe you are right.  Can't think of any other reason.

Happy Easter everyone - again 😉

After all, how many have we all seen?  I feel as tho Jesus is a ping pong ball - always returning....  sorry just for fun :^O

I am transcribing letters written by a young man back in 1942 when he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific.  The letters are to his young lover and some of them are so sad and so desperate for her.

The worst is that over the years he was away the relationship finally broke down - too much distance for too long 😞

How's everyone ?
