The Seniors Thread :-)

"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 🙂

But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul.  We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.

The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there.  If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.

The  belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad.  Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people.  Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.

Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.

What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.

Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later.  We can talk about that too.

Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.

The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...

So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here 🙂

So, onward and upward.  Let's go...."

Hi Freshwaterbeach thought you got lost but didn't think you were deleted or b,pushed that is plain stupid .Arh well some body got there jollys for no reason at all..

Yeah what we did years ago would be fround upon these days and I have a few stories I could tell of my youth that would upset the establishment these days and have them through there arms in the air.. A different time and a different way of life and sometimes I think in some aspects we have gone backwards but they call it progress ..They are probibly right but it was a hell of a lot more fun in those times wasn't it?  Over the years I have had many different makes of transport most never to be forgotten either for how good they were or how bad, but have a soft spot for them all and have fond memories of most and yes some as you put it with a definate foriegn accent..

Darkie, I think you might mean the Guardianship Board?  Do not get involved with them under any circumstances if you can avoid them.

If you thought dealing with Centrelink was a pain, you ain't seen nothing till you have tried to deal with the Guardianship Board. My parents had to deal with them over the affairs of one of Dad's aunts.  It was a nightmare that I still remember even though I was only a teenager at the time.

The Public Trustee is marginally better if you have absolutely nobody else to administer your Will...at least it will not be you having to deal with them.

I am talking here about NSW but I imagine they are much the same everywhere.

My father's cousin was a top QC in Sydney back in the 60's and 70's and he always told us that the law is an ass...I can not count the number of times since then that I have proved him right, especially in the area of Wills and probate.

....

Yes definitely 'the law is an ass' - as quoted from Shakespeare 🙂

You've jogged my memory lyndal, its the Guardian Trust and is put in place so that my lawyer is my chief Carer should I lose my marbles and have to be placed in a nursing home.  He sees to the wishes I have stated in a document.

He also has Power of Attorney and would be my executer in the event of my death.

It leaves my son free to get on with life without all the paper work 🙂

Hey!  who can recall the first time television went to air? and the different series that we watched back then like '77 Sunset Strip' with Kooky and his comb and 'Harry Lime', who remembers the Harry Lime Theme? What about Elliot Ness and 'I Spy' where for the first time a black man had equal billing with a white man... and why can't I remember his name - he went on to become a rather good comedian.

Golly all that is a long time ago.

Well daylight saving is over so when I wake in the morning it is still pitch black but so far we are getting dawn quite early at about 6.15 am, later it will be about 7.45 before we see the sun.

We're sliding guys.  We are going out backwards.

Oh well let's hope we last a little longer.

Anyone got something to say?

I went to gym today, first time in 3 months and I am stiff and sore but no doubt I will get back into it as winter comes along.

Hope to see someone here tomorrow 🙂

Gee it's a bother running out of energy isn't it. 😞

Lovely day down here at 26˚ with cool air to breathe... lovely indeed 🙂
