Gina Rinehart's sway over agriculture policy questioned after Barnaby Joyce award
isnt this politics in action?
if you want something changed to benifit yourself you grease palms. its been with us since day 1 of governments at all levels.
plenty of people sitting on local councils have been caught getting 'under the counter' payments to sway a vote.
as have people in state govts and federal govts.
the mere fact barnaby didnt even stop to think 'how will me accepting this go down in the minds of voters' before thinking out loud how he would spend it shows just how common this sort of thing must go on!
they have rules and processes covering 'gifts' from supporters but still they think its ok just to take a payment for services without a second thought!
we had a sitting premier removed from office over a bottle of wine!
so how is it barnaby can just wake up next morning and give the bribe back and everything is cool?

Common sense should have told him that no matter if the award was genuine or not, it wasn't going to be a good look to accept that money.
Politicians need to stay impartial.
I used to teach & there are laws in place that any teacher who receives a gift from a parent or student that could be deemed to be $100 value or more, must report it & hand it in to the department. I would have thought they would perhaps say decline it & hand it back to the giver but nope, the direction was to hand it in to the dept.
What they would do with it, I do not know.
Mind you, the main times a teacher would receive a gift would be Easter or Christmas/end of year and I never knew anyone to receive gifts worth $100 anyway, that would be over the top.
But if teachers are banned from taking valuable gifts, then politicians should certainly know better too.
